Update from Primary 4

Primary 4 have had a great start to the new term and we’re excited to share with you all the things we’ve been learning about.

Big Writing
This term we are focusing on narrative, explanation and instructional writing.  We’ve enjoyed our writing lessons and have written some excellent narrative stories so far.  We have been using our class blog to add all our ideas.  We’re looking forward to using our new topic, ‘The Ancient Egyptians’ to write some explanation and instructional pieces!

Maths
This term in maths we have been learning about multiplication and division.  We’ve enjoyed our active stations and have found some fun songs on Youtube to help us remember our tables.

Interdisciplinary Learning
We have started to learn all about the Ancient Egyptians.  Miss Kennedy has been so impressed by all the things we already knew about this ancient civilisation.  We have given Miss Kennedy lots of ideas about things we would like to learn about and can’t wait to get started.

World of Work
The children had the opportunity to listen to professionals about their jobs during our World of Work afternoon.  The children heard from a nurse, police officer, bio scientist, an engineering student .  The children took part in activities related to each job.

Keep up to date with our all our hard work throughout the term by checking our Twitter.

An Update from Primary 5/4

Hello again from Primary 5/4!

A big thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Biscuit Company enterprise last term. With your help, we were able to raise a whopping £115 to support our chosen charity!

Moving into 2018 – what a busy term we have had so far! We have loved learning more about Bonnie Scotland, it’s landscape, culture and traditions.

On the 25th of January, we thoroughly enjoyed hosting our own Burns Supper! We toasted the haggis, listened to some of Burns’ most famous poems and tucked into a tasty meal of haggis, neeps and tatties!

We have also been out and about exploring our own little patch of Scotland. Here we are exploring Baron’s Haugh!

Keep checking our blog for the latest information on what we have been up to!

Term 3 Update from Primary 5

Primary 5 have settled in well this Term after the excitement of Christmas. The children are really enthusiastic about their Interdisciplinary/Science topic Clyde in the Classroom. This topic encourages children to engage with nature and develop a sense of pride in their local environment. Primary 5 are responsible for the care of brown trout within their classroom and work weekly with a Clyde River Foundation Scientist. The brown trout eggs were delivered on Wednesday the 24th of January. We are expected to care for the eggs for six weeks where we will then release them into the River Clyde. The children are responsible for checking on the tank several times a day. They need to check the temperature and ensure that it is suitable for the eggs; too hot and they add iced water bottles or too cold and they would remove any iced water bottles. The children need to check on the eggs and remove any eggs which have died to ensure that they don’t spread any viruses to the remaining eggs. Primary 5 are keeping a weekly diary recording the changes of the eggs development. The children are thoroughly enjoying caring for the eggs and all of the learning which is taking place within their topic. Look out for our pictures on Twitter.
