Update from Mrs O’ Donnell and Primary Three

I can’t believe it is October already! However, I am delighted with how well the children have settled into the routines in primary three. Here is a little snapshot of our learning so far.

During literacy this term, we have been revising previously taught phonemes in order to consolidate the children’s learning. In Numeracy we have recently been learning about place value through active and written tasks.

In Primary three this term we have been looking at Scotland in IDL. Recently we have been using the atlas to locate different cities and landmarks in Scotland. Through purposeful play we have created a textured model of Scotland by using plaster of paris bandage and paint. You can see some pictures of us creating this as a class below and we look forward to you coming into the school to see this on display in the corridor.

We are also exploring the human body in science and enjoyed showing off our knowledge to many parents last week at the “Healthy minds, Healthy Bodies” afternoon. This week we took our learning outdoors and had lots of fun creating the human skeleton using sticks, stones and various other natural resources.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you at parents evening Thursday 11th November.

Kind regards,

Mrs O’Donnell

Update From P4

Hello from Primary 4 and Miss Paterson.

In literacy this term we have enjoyed learning our comprehension strategies. We have been reading ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of The Dark’ and we are so sad that we have just finished it -it was a great book! We have also enjoyed writing narrative stories. One of our favourites was Fractured Fairy-tales, where we had to write a traditional fairy-tale story – from the villain’s perspective.

In Maths, we have been learning about Place Value and Rounding. We have loved the challenges these topics have brought.

We have been learning lots about Natural Disasters this term. We have loved using Drama in this topic to recreate scenes and to report Disasters. We also created fantastic leaflets on how to stay safe during an Earthquake and we cannot wait to learn about Volcanoes.

In Health, we have been learning about Growth Mindset. We have looked at how the brain is a muscle and that we have to use it for it to grow. We loved our STEM project for Growth Mindset. This involved exploring the topic of Rapunzel. We discussed how the Prince had a growth mindset and Rapunzel had a fixed mindset and also how the story would have been very different if the Prince didn’t think of other solutions. After this, we had to work together in groups to come up with our own way to get Rapunzel out of the tower. It was great fun!

Keep looking on twitter for updates of our learning,

P4 and Miss Paterson.

Update from Primary 6 and Miss Mitchell

Welcome back everyone! I can’t believe another school year is upon us! Here in Primary 6 we are excited for the new school year ahead and all the wonderful things we have planned.

This term we have enjoyed revising our comprehension strategies through our novel ‘Saving Finnegan’. We have really enjoyed the story so far and are always enthusiastic to see what happens next!

We have taken our maths outdoors and have been estimating and measuring different objects within the school grounds. We enjoy taking our learning outside and having an active approach to it. We used chalk to draw around our hands and estimated our handspans. It was great fun!

We have been learning lots about climate change through our IDL theme. So far we have looked at the different climate zones and the global goals. We are enthusiastic to learn about the effects of plastic and create some recyclable art work.

Painting is our focus in our art lessons this term and we have painted some wonderful still life pictures. We can’t wait for you to see them up on our wall display!

We are looking forward to seeing you all at the Health and Wellbeing afternoon!
