Primary 4/3 Term 1 Update

Since starting back school, Primary 4/3 have been have been working very hard and having lots of fun settling into our new class. We have had a busy term developing our skills in all areas of the curriculum. We have loved learning about Ancient Egypt and have explored the Pharaoh Tutankhamun, Egyptian Gods and Mummification. We particularly enjoyed becoming mummies ourselves! Through our topic we have created a narrative writing piece of “The Egyptian Adventure” and created an interesting fact file about Tutankhamun. During our outdoor learning, we used our problem solving skills to create pyramids and they were a great success! In science, we have been learning about inheritance and discovering who we have inherited certain characteristics and looks from in our family as well as creating our family trees. This term, we have focussed the importance of Growth Mindset and will continue to adopt this in our everyday learning in Primary 4/3.

Thank you for your continued support.

Primary 5F Term 1 Update

This term Primary 5F have enjoyed working on their Viking topic. The children have used the Viking adventure story as a stimulus to recreate some of the scenes within drama and music. The children used drum sticks to keep a variety of rhythms within a group setting. The children used this to keep the Viking rowers in time with each other. The children found this exciting as they acted this out within the playground. The children also acted out the Viking raiders scene and sheltering within the longhall. The class have been learning about Viking people and their way of life. The class can identify Scandinavian countries within a map and they know that Vikings travelled by longships. The children enjoyed designing their own jewellery as part of our Outdoor Learning activity. The children enjoyed designing their own Viking shield.

Primary 2 – Term 1 Update

October 11, 2019 by Mrs McKendrick | 0 comments

Hello from Primary 2 and Miss Smith who have enjoyed a very busy first term!

The children have all settled in well to primary two and have produced excellent work across the curriculum. They have all particularly enjoyed our topic ‘dinosaurs’ and as a class we have researched how they lived in the past. The children have used a range of books and the internet to explore different sources of information and recorded this in a variety of ways within their tasks, activities and play.

The children were able to deepen and develop their understanding of dinosaurs through purposeful play tasks, such as; construction, creative, storytelling and reading, role play, writing and drawing, maths, iPads and smartboard, and playdough. We even went exploring down Barons Haugh to investigate the reports of a dinosaur sighting, to find a freshly laid dinosaur egg. The children had great fun constructing nests to keep the eggs safe in case any more dinosaurs should make an appearance.

The class have not only had lots of fun and learning within IDL, we have been hard at work in numeracy, learning all about place value, the impact which maths has on the world and rounding numbers. In literacy we have been doing lots of reading and story writing, with some amazing narrative stories being produced.
