Welcome Back to Session 2025-2026

Welcome back to the new school session. We hope our families have had a lovely and restful summer. All staff have been working hard yesterday and today in preparation for the children returning.

A few things to start our year:

A wee reminder of our school day timings:

P2 – P7 children 8.50am-9.00am. We operate a ‘Soft Start’ and all children should be in school for 9am.

Primary 1 Pupils– 10am start (tomorrow only) Please bring pupils to the school hall. We ask that only 1 or 2 adults accompany each child to the hall. This is to help create a calm and smooth transition for all pupils.

All pupils will be dismissed at 3pm. As in previous years – P1 & P2 will be dismissed at the main entrance, each child will be handed over to their parent/carer by the Class Teacher.

P3 – P7 will be dismissed through the infant yard.

We ask all adults NOT to enter the yard at any point for Health & Safety reasons.

Nursery – Returning Children

Our nursery staff are looking forward to welcome back returning children at 8.50am.

Pick up time for nursery children – doors will open at 2.45pm.

We ask that all parents observe drop off/pick up times for both school and nursery. If there are any concerns around this please speak to a member of SLT.

Friday 15th August – Holy Day of Obligation

Friday 15th August – This is the Feast of Assumption, as it is a Holy Day of Obligation P2 – P7 pupils will attend Mass in the parish at 9.30am. Due to this being Primary 1 pupils’ 2nd day of school we will not take them to Mass on this occasion.

Weekly Blogs

Our weekly blog will return on Friday 22nd August – please make sure you check it out to find out what has been happening in St. Brendan’s. More information to follow!

Finally we wish everyone the best of luck and look forward to a busy and exciting year of learning ahead! If there is anything we can do to help, please contact the school office who will pass this to SLT and we can work together to support you and your child(ren).

Our final blog for the 2024-2025 session!

A final farewell to our incredible P7s

As we bid a heartfelt farewell to our wonderful Primary 7s we do so with pride and joy in our hearts. Their show, I’m a P7, Get Me Out of Here, had us all laughing, cheering, and beaming with admiration—it truly showcased their creativity, confidence, and sense of fun. A huge thank you to Miss McShane and Mr Bradley for their witty script writing and support to the P7 pupils as they prepared them in their final chapter here at St. Brendan’s. Not to mention last night’s ceilidh, where they danced their hearts out and filled the room with energy and smiles! Watching them grow into such kind, capable young people has been a privilege for us all here in St. Brendan’s. As they head off to high school, we want them to know just how proud we are of all they’ve achieved in the past 7 years and all that lies ahead.

Our amazing end of year awards!

Our Sports Day

Sports Day was an absolute blast filled with sunshine and lots of laughter, cheers and fantastic team spirit! From the high-energy races to the hilarious chaos of the three-legged challenge, every event brought out determination and big smiles. Pupils skipped like pros, powered through the obstacle course with determination and giggles and showed remarkable focus in the classic egg and spoon race—no easy feat with that wobbly cargo! It was a brilliant day of fun and friendly competition, and we couldn’t be prouder of everyone who took part.

A final word for this session!

As the school year ends, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our pupils and families for making it such a vibrant and memorable one. From the amazing St Andrew’s Day performances and the magic of our Christmas Nativity. We’ve been inspired by our pupils developing their meta skills through Skills Academies, dazzled by their achievements in football, the North Lanarkshire Dance Finals, and Glee, and deeply proud of their creativity on show through our wide range of Golden Time clubs highlighted through our very successful creativity showcase.

Pupils have experienced the hands-on excitement of computing science through LEGO challenges and the KNEX challenge where we reached the regional final. This year has been a celebration of growth, talent, and togetherness.

We survived the storm, and the unforgettable trip to Largs for the P7 residential which gave us memories to treasure. We were also honoured to welcome Education Scotland to our school this year, who recognised the incredible work happening in our classrooms—including the filming of P6 and Mrs Williamson for a non-fiction literacy pilot. We were also thrilled to welcome the Education Cabinet Secretary and even made our debut on the national news!

Throughout the year, we’ve been privileged to journey alongside our pupils as they celebrated important milestones in their faith through the sacraments. From the reverence of First Reconciliation and the joy of First Holy Communion to the deep reflection and commitment shown at Confirmation, these moments have been truly special. Each celebration was a testament to the pupils’ growth in faith and understanding, supported by their families, teachers and parish community. We are so proud of how they embraced these meaningful steps with such sincerity, grace and joy.

This year also brought emotional moments as we said farewell to two very special staff members, Mrs Dickie and Mrs Hogg, whose contributions will always be part of our school’s story.

To every pupil—thank you for your enthusiasm, curiosity and courage. And to our parents and carers—your support has meant the world. Wishing you all a joyful, restful summer filled with sunshine and new adventures. We’ll see you in August, ready for the next exciting chapter.

St Brendan’s Weekly News

Welcome back to our Weekly Blog with our exciting news and learning experiences from our pupils.

Take a look at the exciting learning experiences our pupils have been involved in over the past week!

Our Creativity Showcase

Yesterday we were thrilled to open our doors and celebrate the incredible creativity and talent of our pupils in St. Brendan’s. This academic year we have been thinking about creativity and how we could provide increased opportunities for creativity and innovation within the classroom and wider school.

The children from Primary 1 to Primary 7 have taken part in mixed-age Golden Time Clubs, choosing from an exciting range of clubs including Glee, Music, Art, Sewing, Digital, Movie Making, Dance, STEM, Newspaper, and Dungeons & Dragons World-Building.

Through these clubs, our learners have developed key meta-skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and resilience, as well as honing their creative thinking. It has been a joy to watch them explore their passions, learn from one another, and grow in confidence.

This event was truly a celebration of their efforts and imagination. Our children were very excited to perform and share what they have been learning with. Our wonderful school choir and our award-winning dance troupe the St Brendan Barnyard Boppers also put on a spectacular performance.

Mrs McGlone and our parent helper Mrs Feeney have been working hard to help develop pupils’ skills in collaboration to build dens and shelters, fostering creativity and resilience. They have also helped develop their gross motor skills through tree climbing challenges, boosting confidence and coordination in a natural, inspiring setting.

From mastering essential techniques to exploring new recipes, pupils have been developing their confidence in the kitchen while enjoying a social and engaging experience.

Take a look at some of their delicious creations from last week’s club:
