An Update from Primary 6

Hello again from Primary 6!

We have had a fabulous first term and have returned after our October break energised and ready for this busy term and the run up to Christmas.

Since the last time you heard from us we were able to learn more about our IDL topic, the Rainforest. We learned about the variety of living things that can be found in this amazing ecosystem, food chains and the dangers of deforestation. Take a peek at some of the great Rainforest artwork that we have created below.

We have also been enjoying getting outdoors. We took a nature walk through Barons Haugh and compared the features of our own local woodland to the Rainforest. We also enjoyed den making during our one of our whole school outdoor learning experiences.

This term, we have started to learn all about the Victorians. We will be exploring what life was like for children during this time at home, school and in work. We will also be working hard to learn a selection of songs and dances from Oliver! to perform for you at our Christmas show!

Primary 7 Term 2!

Now that primary 7 have settled into the school year, they are very much looking forward to the fantastic opportunities the second term brings! This term we are lucky enough to attend Forest Finders- an Outdoor Learning programme- every Friday. Primary 7 have enjoyed taking part in various activities such as building rockets, carving pumpkins and making dens out of natural materials. This has been an invaluable bonding experience and we look forward to attending more sessions at Forest Finders.

High School Visit

Primary 7 had a great time at their transition day at Our Lady’s High School last Wednesday. They had lots of fun experiencing a day in the life of a high school pupil – they attended various subjects such as English, ICT, and Social Studies. This was also a good opportunity for the pupils to mingle with children from partner schools.

Kilbowie

Without a doubt, Primary 7 are very excited about their trip to Kilbowie next week! As we count down the days, we can’t wait to participate in a range of exciting activities and meet new friends! We will keep you updated about our adventures via Twitter!

Update from Mrs. McLauchlan

The children are settling in well and we have enjoyed a busy start to the first term of primary two. Our ‘Under the Sea’ topic is well underway and the children have responded positively to a variety of activities based on the topic. We are learning about ocean creatures and their habitats and the children can impress with the knowledge they have gained so far!

The children have particularly enjoyed the range of art and science activities the topic has offered. Some of the artwork includes starfish paintings, fish collages and salt dough sea creatures. Science activities have included exploring floating and sinking (the children were rather impressed by our ‘drowning’ orange task), finding out if salt water affects how an object floats and, more recently, our ‘walking water’ experiment which gave us the opportunity to see how water travels through the process of absorption. The children have also experienced a variety of writing opportunities based on our topic including writing creative stories and fact files about various sea creatures.

In maths, much of our work this term has been focused on number work, in particular, exploring the concept of number, and learning about numbers up to 100. To develop their number skills the children have been revising number stories to ten and have been introduced to number stories up to 20. Within addition we are focusing on numbers up to 20.

We hope you have enjoyed gaining an insight into some of the work carried out so far this term. Thank you for your continued support.
