Primary 5 Term 3

I can’t quite believe we are now into our third term here in Primary 5! Time surely does fly by when you are learning and having lots of fun! During Term 2 our IDL theme was the Romans and we had lots of great learning experiences. There was so much to learn in this topic that we have actually carried it over to Term 3 for a short while. The children are knowledgeable on the Roman Empire, the Roman army, Boudicca and many other aspects of Roman life. They also created fantastic artwork as you can see in our pictures. We created authentic Roman shields in a similar style and design to that of the Romans and beautiful mosaics using a variety of gummed paper. We are also excited about our trip to Motherwell Heritage Centre in a few weeks where we will actually get to see some genuine Roman artefacts! Throughout Term 3 we are going to create our own class enterprise topic. The children will learn about the running of a business and will also be fully involved in the making of the products that we are going to sell within the school. We are going to Sky Studios in Livingstone in April to experience what it’s like to work in a television studio. We have opted to focus this learning around the theme ‘World of Money’ to link in perfectly with our Enterprise topic. We will be focusing on ‘instructions’ during our writing lessons and the children have already enjoyed making their own empire biscuit and then writing excellent instructions on exactly how to do it.

An Update from Primary 6

Hello once again from Primary 6!

Since you last heard from us we have been very busy indeed!

Last term, we worked extremely hard to prepare the different performances taking place over the course of the term. For our St Andrews showcase, we learned and performed an extract from Matthew Fitt’s ‘The Eejits’ Here is a picture of Mr. and Mrs. Eejit themselves! During our Christmas show, we performed a selection of songs and dances from Oliver! – a musical which linked perfectly to our topic, The Victorians!

This term has gotten off to an excellent start. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about different careers during our World of Work event this week. Here we are working with some of the great volunteers who gave up their time to work with us!

This will be a very important and exciting term for Primary 6 as we prepare to make the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please pray for us during this special and holy time.

A Update from Primary 7

Primary 7 are feeling refreshed and ready to work hard after their Christmas break. The pupils are continuing to show maturity and enthusiasm in their role as paired reading partners and peer mediators. We also have the responsibility of organising the Golden Time clubs this term so we have been very busy! For the next six weeks we are lucky enough to have a French Assistant (Romane) who will be working with us every Tuesday. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the French culture and of course having an opportunity to speak French with a native speaker.

Term 3 is a very exciting one for Primary 7. With the special Sacrament – Confirmation – approaching, the boys and girls will be reflecting and preparing for a new journey in their Faith. In class we have been learning about the life and work of modern day Saints such as Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina and Saint Teresa of Calcutta. We look forward to our Confirmation preparation and retreat day next month.
