Term 1 in Primary 3/2 with Mrs McCann and Mrs Colton

Primary 3/2 have had a very busy first term. We have been enjoying the new challenges and learning experiences at this new stage.

Our interdisciplinary topic this term is ‘Katie Morag Delivers the Mail’. Using the story as a stimulus we have been learning about the key residential, agricultural and recreational differences between a town and remote island. During play-based learning experiences, the children have had lots of fun re-enacting life on a remote island in our class Post Office. We have used a variety of malleable materials to create a 3D model of the island of Struay. In the construction area, we have been using our problem-solving skills to create a variety of houses and buildings. We have also used the stories of Katie Morag as a stimulus for our writing lessons. The pupils were able to retell the story of ‘Katie Morag Delivers the Mail’ in their own words. Have a look at our work below. As well as this, the pupils learned how to write a letter, by writing a letter to Katie Morag asking her about her life on the island with her family. All the pupils are eagerly waiting for a reply from Katie Morag. I wonder if we will get one next week….

An Update from Primary 5/4

A big hello from Primary 5/4!

We have had a fantastic first term, full of learning and full of fun! We have spent time getting to know one another and enjoyed casting our votes to elect our Pupil Council members for this year.

As part of our science focus this term, we have learned lots about water and how it changes state. Below are some pictures from the one of practical investigations we carried out to help us find out more about this cool topic!

Recently, we invited Mrs. Oates to join us on an outdoor learning experience. We used teamwork and problem solving skills to create our own waterproof dens. Click below to have a wee peek at some of the super shelters we built together!

We are now learning about how a growth mindset can help us to be more successful. We can’t wait to share what we find out with you on the school Twitter feed and in our next blog entry!

An Update from Primary 4

Primary 4 have settled well into the new school year and are enjoying lots of new learning experiences.

This term, our class topic is Natural Disasters. We have enjoyed learning about how earthquakes occur and we have identified places around the world that experience earthquakes regularly. We have learned about how we can prepare ourselves in the event of an emergency, and have practiced earthquake drills to protect ourselves.

We have read different news stories about earthquakes in Europe. Through drama and role play we have taken on the role of news reporters and eye witnesses to explore the effect natural disasters have on the local people. We then became journalists and wrote our own newspaper articles.
This week we will move on to discuss hurricanes; how and why they happen and the effects of a hurricanes on the country.

Our pictures show just how hard we are working!

We are looking forward to seeing what the rest of the term will bring.
