Term 2 update from Primary 6

Youth Music Project

As part of our work with the Youth Music Project, Primary 6 have been working hard to rehearse their very own song. Our theme is the skeleton and we had lots of fun creating unique lyrics to a spooky melody. The children also designed a front cover for their CD – they are very excited about this and we look forward to sharing the final product with you. In the coming weeks we will work with Mrs Wilkinson and the choir to perfect our recording skills.

IDL Topic

Our IDL topic this term is the Victorians. Recently, we have been comparing school life in the past with modern day times. We were super excited to turn our class into a Victorian classroom last week. The children engaged well with this and are keen to explore the gruesome aspects of this era. In the lead up to Christmas we will be exploring the seasonal traditions from the Victorian period which have remained with us such as the Christmas card. We will also examine the differences between the Victorian diet and our own as part of Health and Wellbeing. There will be a small homework project based on this.

RE

In class the children have been learning about Other World Religions. Our focus this week is on Islam. We have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the five pillars of Islam and researching the special traditions which take place during Ramadan. Take a look at the wonderful mosques we have created!

St. Brendan’s Junior Road Safety Officers

Let us introduce ourselves, we are Erin & Nathan the Junior Road Safety Officers of St Brendan’s Primary School and we help to promote road safety in the school.

We would like to address the parking outside the school. We ask that you DO NOT park on the yellow lines because it is a danger to all of the children in the school. We do encourage that you and your child walk to and from school, however, if you need to take your car we have been given permission by Father Brown to use the church car park.

The police have already visited the school several times to highlight the dangers of parking directly outside the school and to remind people to think about the safety of the children.

DO NOT:

Park on or opposite the zigzags – a clear road is safer to cross

Park on pavements – children are trying to walk there!

Block driveways – don’t be lazy – park somewhere else!

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

From the JRSO’s Erin & Nathan.
