Primary 6 Update: Term 1

Now that the new term is well underway, Primary 6 have settled into their new class and are working super hard! As senior pupils of the school, we have the responsibility of organising the committees this year. The children are looking forward to working together to complete this task!

Endangered Species

Primary 6 have shown great enthusiasm for their new topic – Endangered Species – and have enjoyed discussing ways in which we can help to save the amazing wildlife on our planet. We have been very lucky to work with Save the Rhino who have sent us some resources! The children recently created an information report on the Javan Rhino and are keen to share the facts and information they have learned. This topic has also given the children great opportunities to use their creative and artistic skills!

Song Writing Project

Primary 6 are incredibly fortunate as they will be writing and recording a song in the coming months as part of the “Youth Music Initiative” programme. Over the next few weeks, they will work with professionals from this initiative to write their own unique lyrics. The theme for this project is “Incredible Structures” and we are looking forward to getting started!

An Update from Primary 7

We can’t believe we are half way through September already! Primary 7 have been working really hard on all aspects of the curriculum so far. We enjoyed learning how to up-level our sentences through Rainbow Writing. We worked with a partner and inserted more interesting words into dull sentences. During our maths lessons we have been rotating round different stations learning about rounding. Have a look at our pictures to see the fun learning we have been doing.

Term 4 update from Miss Lawlor

As Primary 7 approach their final days at St Brendan’s, I would like to update you on what we have been doing over the past few weeks in class. Primary 7 have been working hard with the “Building Stronger Communities” programme. The children were eager to participate in the percussion activities and had a great time creating their own beats. This project was an excellent opportunity to develop musical skills and the children will continue to work with the musicians in high school. Primary 7 have also been busy delivering PE activities to the younger children in the school during lunch time. They have shown great maturity as young leaders and they loved having an opportunity to plan, organise and coach a wide range of fitness activities. In addition, Primary 7 had the privilege of taking part in the Yellow Walk Day for St Andrew’s Hospice. The event was held at Strathclyde Park and we had a beautiful, sunny day. Well done to everyone who took part!

Transition to High School

Primary 7 thoroughly enjoyed their transition days at Our Lady’s High School. They were very excited to meet new friends and find out their house and classes. Our trip to Edinburgh Dungeons was a great way to celebrate our achievements this year– we couldn’t believe how convincing the actors were! Without a doubt, Primary 7 have had a happy and memorable final term! In class we have had fun reflecting upon and discussing their fantastic memories throughout their 7 years at St Brendan’s. We had an emotional time celebrating our leaver’s mass and assembly with our parents, carers, school and community. I wish Primary 7 every success as they begin a new journey in education. Thank you for a fantastic year Primary 7 and good luck for high school in August!
