This month, Primary 6 pupils have been learning about Black History Month and the importance of anti-racism, equality and inclusion. Through class discussions and research, pupils developed their understanding of how everyone should be treated fairly and with respect. They analysed, wrote and delivered speeches to share their learning, celebrate the achievements of Black people and encourage others to challenge racism. Pupils also created informative infographics about inspirational Black individuals from a range of fields, including politics, activism and entertainment, before presenting their findings to their classmates.
In art, pupils explored the work of African American artist Alma Thomas and learned about her distinctive abstract style. Inspired by her use of colour and simple dashed brushstrokes, pupils experimented with a variety of painting techniques to create their own vibrant abstract artwork. It was wonderful to see their creativity and confidence develop throughout the project.
In PE, we have recently started an exciting volleyball block. For many pupils, this has been their first experience of the sport, and they have enjoyed learning new skills through a range of fun games and team challenges. So far, we have focused on passing, serving, movement around the court and developing the ready position. Pupils have shown great enthusiasm, resilience and teamwork as they practised and improved their skills. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow, and we look forward to continuing our volleyball learning over the coming weeks.
