A Successful Health Day!

Health Day

Today our school community came together for a special Health Day, organised by our hardworking Sports Committee. As part of our Lenten Fridays, pupils were invited to donate £1 to wear sports clothes for the day, supporting both our charitable focus and our commitment to healthy living.

Sports Swap Shop Success

Our Sports Committee launched a brilliant new Sports Swap Shop, designed to make sure every pupil has access to the sports clothing and equipment they need. The initiative also supports our commitment to looking after the environment by giving pre‑loved items a new home instead of sending them to waste.

Pupils were able to purchase items for just £1, keeping things affordable while still raising funds to support school activities. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, the event was a great success and raised a fantastic £80.

All profits will go towards buying new sports equipment for the school and improving our playground resources. It was wonderful to see pupils getting involved and supporting both active lifestyles and sustainability.

Healthy Treats for a Healthy Day

Throughout the morning, our wonderful support staff visited each class with freshly prepared fruit pots.

These were distributed to pupils as a healthy snack to keep energy levels up for the activities ahead. A huge thank you to ASDA Motherwell for their kind donation of fresh fruit and vegetables.

It was a lovely way to reinforce the message that healthy choices can be simple, colourful and delicious.

A Full Morning of Activity

Each class enjoyed a 40‑minute block in the hall, split into two 20‑minute sessions.

Activities included:

Athletics outdoors, led by Miss Waldron, giving pupils the chance to run, jump, throw and challenge themselves using a variety of equipment.

Curling and Boccia in the hall, led by Fiona from Active Schools and supported by enthusiastic Sports Leaders from OLHS. These inclusive sports encouraged teamwork, precision and plenty of friendly competition.

The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, encouragement, and lots of laughter.

Staff vs. Pupils: The Netball Showdown

One of the highlights of the day was the much‑anticipated Netball Team vs. Staff Team match. As always, it was highly competitive, full of determination on both sides and great fun for everyone watching. Events like this remind us how sport brings our school community together across all ages.

A Day That Celebrates Health, Community & Lent

Health Day wasn’t just about physical activity—it was about coming together as a school, supporting our Lenten commitments and celebrating the importance of wellbeing in all its forms. Thanks to the Sports Committee, Support Staff, Active Schools, OLHS Sports Leaders and all pupils and staff who took part, the day was a great success.
