Blog Week beginning 9th June

St Brendan’s Weekly News

Welcome back to our Weekly Blog with our exciting news and learning experiences from our pupils.

Take a look at the exciting learning experiences our pupils have been involved in over the past week!

Our Creativity Showcase

Yesterday we were thrilled to open our doors and celebrate the incredible creativity and talent of our pupils in St. Brendan’s. This academic year we have been thinking about creativity and how we could provide increased opportunities for creativity and innovation within the classroom and wider school.

The children from Primary 1 to Primary 7 have taken part in mixed-age Golden Time Clubs, choosing from an exciting range of clubs including Glee, Music, Art, Sewing, Digital, Movie Making, Dance, STEM, Newspaper, and Dungeons & Dragons World-Building.

Through these clubs, our learners have developed key meta-skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and resilience, as well as honing their creative thinking. It has been a joy to watch them explore their passions, learn from one another, and grow in confidence.

This event was truly a celebration of their efforts and imagination. Our children were very excited to perform and share what they have been learning with. Our wonderful school choir and our award-winning dance troupe the St Brendan Barnyard Boppers also put on a spectacular performance.

Primary 1 Teddy Bears Picnic

On Wednesday our current Primary 1 children and our new cohort of Primary 1 children joined together for A Teddy Bears Picnic for an afternoon of fun. Our picnic allowed our current and new primary ones to fosters friendships, ease transitions, and build excitement for the school journey ahead—all while enjoying stories, snacks, and cuddly companions. A huge thank you to our Primary 6 children too, who have taken on the great responsibility of being our new cohorts buddies.

Forest Schools

Throughout this term our Forest School children have been thriving at Barons Haugh, embracing adventure while honing problem-solving and teamwork skills. Mrs McGlone and our parent helper Mrs Feeney have been working hard to help develop pupils’ skills in collaboration to build dens and shelters, fostering creativity and resilience. They have also helped develop their gross motor skills through tree climbing challenges, boosting confidence and coordination in a natural, inspiring setting.

Cooking After School Club

Our senior pupils have been having lots of fun at our cooking after school club. Thanks to our volunteer Miss Kane, a soon to be home economics probationary teacher, the pupils have been developing lifelong practical culinary skills, teamwork, and creativity. From mastering essential techniques to exploring new recipes, pupils have been developing their confidence in the kitchen while enjoying a social and engaging experience.

Take a look at some of their delicious creations from last week’s club:

Cabinet Secretary Visit

We are thrilled to announce that our school will be visited on Tuesday the 17th of June by MSP Jenny Gilruth, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills who will be launching a new policy from the Scottish Government.

During her visit MSP Jenny Gilruth will be meeting with pupils, parents and staff.

We look forward to welcoming her to St. Brendan’s. Stay tuned for our blog next week to find out all about the visit!
