Primary 6/7 have had a very busy week!
We were invited to Buchanan High for an interactive bible workshop.
In maths we have been working on shape and measure. Primary 6 were measuring angles and Primary 7 have been working on shape rotation and reflection.

We have been very busy in primary five learning all about the world of work. We have been further looking at our skills and strengths and thinking about what jobs we may be able to link with them.
A really interesting thing we did this week was looking at a day at school and a day at work. We couldn’t believe the amount of things that were the same. Then we looked at our favourite things about a day at school and we discussed how these should be our interests to develop further.
“I love to read and write. Maybe I could be an author.”- Ellie
“I love to help the little ones. Maybe I could be a children’s nurse.”- Sinead
” I love solving problems and mysteries. Maybe I could be a detective.”-Aiden
We also looked at all the jobs in the class and consulted with each other to write a final list of jobs and job descriptions for each.
We had lots of fun next when we had to apply for one of these jobs. We filled in application forms and wrote about our skills and strengths and we even gave examples of our experience of using our skills.
Mrs MacFarlane then taught us about Persuasive writing. We went on to write about ourselves and how we really should be considered for the job! We used lots of persuasive words like punctual, motivated, responsible and trustworthy! We hope that this persuasive piece will help us prepare for interviews and writing CVs.

This week we looked at Fireworks Night. We used our ITC skills in the digital learning suite to work through a module on Espresso that helped us understand the meaning of bonfire night. Afterwards, we listened to a video with the visual off a don,y the round on. It really made us listen! As we listened, we heard explosions, whizzing, banging and shouting. It helped us imagine a fireworks celebration. Throughout the week, we learned how to keep safe on bonfire night and ended our week by writing a fact about bonfire safety. In art, we explored colour and lines to create these wonderful pieces of art. We even added texture using different sprinkles!
In PE Mrs Carlin is teaching us the skills we need to play hockey. The hockey sticks were tricky to hold and we needed lots of practice. It was great fun. We let our teacher know how we got on by choosing a coloured mat to stand at, green means we think our skills were good today, yellow means we need s little more practice and red means we need a lot more help to get the grasp of the new skills.
Everyone is looking forward to next session.

We got a little spooky last Monday as we completed our Spooky Halloween houses and advertised them for sale. As promised, here are our finished pieces of artwork…
Then it was time to get forget Halloween and really focus on our new topic which is space. Here we are reading about the solar system and watching a video in order to develop our note-taking skills…
We we are really refining our note-taking skills and we’re enjoying learning lots of different ways to organise our notes. On Thursday, we wrote some excellent explanation reports using only our notes! Watch out for some photos of our Star Writers!
On top of all that, we performed our amazing class assembly about Spain on Friday. Each and every one of us took part and did ourselves, our parents and our teachers proud. Well done P6!

For this episode of “Our School”, we decided to look at our fantastic playground. In our playground, you can see –
Wow! What a great place to be! When you are in the playground, you can play tig with your friends. You can also have great fun when you are playing football or basketball. We like our playground because there is a lot of space.

For Halloween this week, we made some scary spider mobiles to be hung as spooky decorations. We loved making them even though some of our legs went missing!

Our new topic is Festivals. We are exploring lots of different festivals from now until the Christmas holidays. This week we learned all about Halloween and how it links to The feast of All Saints and All Souls’ Day too. Here’s what we have been up to so far……
We learned where our food comes from in autumn and used our observational skills to colour mix and paint these Starlight Pumpkins.
We learned about some popular saints- St. Peter, St Andrew, St Francis of Assisi, St Teresa of Calcutta and made our own mini books to help us pray.
This week is also the festival of Diwali for Hindus and Sikhs. It is a festival of light so we used our cutting and folding skills to make these Diwali lanterns.
