Spanish in primary 1 .

In our Spanish lessons we have been learning the colours. We also know how to sign the colours using British Sign Language.

Our Spanish bear, Pablo has been helping us learn about Spain. We wanted to find out more about the festivals in Spain because we are learning about “Feasts, Festivals and Celebrations” at topic time.

In RE we have changed our altar colours to purple for the season of advent and are now looking at ways we can prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas time.

If you come into our school, you will see our wall display has changed. Now that the weather is colder, we have put our collage snowmen on display. You will be able to read our winter sentences too!

Loving learning in primary 1!

Last week, we learned all about the Apostleship of the Sea which will be our schools advent charity this year. We then went on to make clay fish dishes in art. Most of us hadn’t used clay before, we loved the cold feel of it under our fingers and liked the way we could squish it up and start again.

Also last week, we learned to add! How amazing we are! Look at us making up our own number stories to explore what happens when we add 1 more.

On Thursday, we did some music, learning to keep the beat using musical instruments. We sang songs in Spanish too.

Our writing is improving every day. Now we are learning to write sentences.

Here is our RE display from last week when we celebrated the feast of Christ the King. Each group worked cooperatively to write a prayer and make a crown.

This week, we took a look at the area surrounding our school.

We visited the streets that are close to St Bartholomew’s. The streets are called Dunvegan Avenue and Deveron Street. If you go to these streets, you can see beautiful trees with golden leaves and pretty plants in great gardens. We saw people taking grit from grit boxes – it was a VERY chilly day! In these streets, you can find lots of people living in massive houses. You can also play football here, but you need to be careful when you are near roads.

Wednesday 16th November

Our Primary 2/3’s had a fabulous time with Vicki from NLC Active School’s.The children had over an hour of fun games and activities and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A huge thank you to Vicki for her contribution- we really appreciate it!

Thank you very much to all of our parents and carers who have generously contributed to the Christmas Fayre so far.All donations are very welcome, no matter how small and every little helps. Please ensure that all donations are handed in to the office for the attention of Mrs Cummings, who has very kindly volunteered to coordinate events for the Christmas Fayre.Again, a big thank you to all of our parent helpers who have been very busy behind the scenes. We can’t wait until Saturday the 26th of November …

A Truly Blessed Visit

This week we have had the honour of Father Laurence and Antoniette from Ireland to come into St Bartholomew’s to teach us all about the Eucharistic Adoration. It was a special and wonderful experience that taught us all about the Eucharist. Having a chat from Antoniette we learned a lot about Jesus and how He connects to us within our hearts. It is so important that we cherish Christ in our hearts and through the receiving the Eucharist, The Body Of Christ.

In class we have also been learning about the Monstrance and how sacred this vessel is with the Catholic Church to hold the Host during Eucharistic Adoration. We were so lucky to see one up close and to touch it!! Thank you!

We then celebrated mass with Father Laurence in our very own school Oratory. It was truly a beautiful experience and one we are so grateful for, especially in preparation for our First Holy Communion next year.

Special Visitors in pr 5

This week in primary five we were visited by three special people. This was all part of our working world topic.

First we were visited by Dr Ross Fairgrieve who told us all about his job as a paediatric anaesthetist in Glasgow.

He told us all the different types of doctors there are and he told us all about his journey to become a doctor. He said it was a long but fulfilling journey and he loves his job. The children were amazed at how Dr Fairgrieve and his team save so many lives each year. Quite a few of our children want to be doctors after this visit!

Our next visitor was PC Chris McQuade who came in to talk about his job with the police. He told us all about the training and how a police officer must be fast and very fit. He was amazed about how much the children knew about the world of work and the children thought he was the coolest police officer ever! Many of our pr 5 s are now thinking about a career in the police force.

Our last visitor was Mr Colin MacFarlane who is a youth work manager for the National YMCA. The children wanted to know if his job had anything to do with the song! He told them all about working for a charity and how the YMCA has made a positive impact in many people’s young lives. He even told us he has travelled all around the world doing his job. Sounds great fun!

We can’t wait to share all our learning with our parents at our assembly coming up this Friday.

A wealth of learning in Primary 1.

We are becoming very confident with our phonemes and can match pictures to sounds as well as capitals to lower case.

In maths we explored more and less. It was actually quite tricky for lots of us but by the end of the week we were extremely good at it.

We programmed the bee bot to travel more or less than the number on the spinner.

We challenged our partner to put out more or less counters.

Our work in Feasts, festivals and celebrations saw us looking at Remembrance Day. It was sad to think of all of the people who had died. We used our artistic skills to make poppies to remember them by. We used different types of papers and needed to use our best cutting skills to make sure that each circle was neat. We glued them together and added a seed centre with black sparkles.

This week in Primary 3 we have been learning about Remembrance Day. We wrote an explanation in our jotters about why this day is celebrated, then we made our own poppies to mark the occasion.

Primary 6/7 have had a very busy week!

We were invited to Buchanan High for an interactive bible workshop.

In maths we have been working on shape and measure. Primary 6 were measuring angles and Primary 7 have been working on shape rotation and reflection.

Primary five and the world of work

We have been very busy in primary five learning all about the world of work. We have been further looking at our skills and strengths and thinking about what jobs we may be able to link with them.

A really interesting thing we did this week was looking at a day at school and a day at work. We couldn’t believe the amount of things that were the same. Then we looked at our favourite things about a day at school and we discussed how these should be our interests to develop further.

“I love to read and write. Maybe I could be an author.”- Ellie

“I love to help the little ones. Maybe I could be a children’s nurse.”- Sinead

” I love solving problems and mysteries. Maybe I could be a detective.”-Aiden

We also looked at all the jobs in the class and consulted with each other to write a final list of jobs and job descriptions for each.

We had lots of fun next when we had to apply for one of these jobs. We filled in application forms and wrote about our skills and strengths and we even gave examples of our experience of using our skills.

Mrs MacFarlane then taught us about Persuasive writing. We went on to write about ourselves and how we really should be considered for the job! We used lots of persuasive words like punctual, motivated, responsible and trustworthy! We hope that this persuasive piece will help us prepare for interviews and writing CVs.
