Primary 5 and interesting research!

This week have been looking at a number of things as part of our UK topic.

One thing we have been looking at is Coatbridge, our local area. We began researching how Coatbridge got it’s name then we became engrossed finding all about Coatbridge throughout the years.

Did you know the Coatbridge fountain has been moved many times in the past? Look at these photos below. Can you guess the decade?

We really liked the ones with the horse and carts!

Keep an eye on school bags for Monday’s homework. A bit different this week. A Coatbridge challenge!

We have also been continuing to read through The BFG. We are at the part where Sophie and the giant head to Buckingham palace. We followed their journey via our smart board and we were fascinated with Buckingham Palace. What a lovely building! We even had a wee sneaky peak inside. Very impressive and glamorous. We decided to draw it in art and decided to write about meeting the queen in story writing! Imagine!

A catch up with pr5!

Primary five have been very busy practising our tables. If you walk by our room you will see us playing games such as stand and deliver, hot seat, bean bag pass and so on. These are to help us to remember our tables quicker. It’s a challenge but we are really enjoying it!

We have been learning all about theUK. Part of this has involved us looking at the Atlas and we are beginning to become experts when it comes to locating places on maps and using co-ordinates. We are really enjoying this and some of us have even chosen to read an Atlas in our reading for enjoyment time!

Part of learning about the UK is looking at how the UK is lead.  We had a look at the Royal Family And their family tree. It was interesting to find out who is first in line for the throne. Did you know there are people 13th in line for the throne? We had a good look at who will be our future king or Queen!

The next part of our topic is to look at the local area of Coatbridge! Keep your eyes peeled for questionnaires and little researchers coming from Pr 5!

Magic Maths in Primary 3

This week has been very exciting in primary 3 as we are now learning our numbers up to a thousand! We used our class treasure chests to help us sort the hundreds, tens and units.

We then used the HTU mats to help us write some numbers up to a thousand.

Finally, we took a break from our number work to begin learning about pictograms. We made a class pictograms on the  smartboard showing our favourite fruits.

A P6 Update…

As always, we have been working very hard this week. We have been exploring Spanish culture and getting all hot and bothered about a very contentious issue – bullfighting. We all had very strong opinions about this after we watched a video of a real bullfight. Then we wrote some excellent recounts about a day in the life of a matador…

We explored Spanish culture some more by looking at the artwork of a very famous artist called Salvador Dali. He was a famous surrealist and his paintings, although based on real things, are very dreamlike or exaggerated. Have a look at our Dali elephants below…can you tell which parts are exaggerated?

Later on in the week, we worked with Mrs MacIntyre in the Performing Arts Studio. We explored rhythmic patterns and melodies in songs and had a go at creating some of our own…

We continue to really impress Mrs McLean with our hard work and enthusiasm. Great work P6, well done!

The Oreo Experiment

September 26, 2016 by User deactivated | 0 comments

This week has seen primary 4 doing lots of fun activities, one of which was the Oreo Experiment! Using Oreo cookies we created the different moon phases from full moon to new moon and sorted it into the correct order. We all had a ball doing this and still managed to sneak in time to eat an Oreo or two…

Also this week we were working hard in literacy and learning all about commas and how to use them within a list. We worked in pairs to problem solve and then created our own sentences using lists and commas. Great start primary 4- keep this up! Watch out for more updates.
