Primary 1 update.

In our PE these past few weeks, we have been developing skills for “Invasion Games!” This sounds quite scary, but here is what we have been doing….

We have been learning to control the ball with our feet and move in different directions with the ball.

It has been tricky to keep the ball under control and not touch it with our hands!

Also, we had to learn to stop the ball with our feet, another skill that we need more practice with!

Not only did we use our feet to control the ball, we also used our hands and have been learning how to bounce the ball while moving slowly around the room. We all liked this best, but we still need to practice.

You can see that we are trying hard to write sentences. Look at these short sentences about a cat and an owl, with capital letters  and full stops.

Here, you can see that we are working hard to improve our handwriting and have new handwriting books to practice the size and formation of the letters.

Also, we are trying to make the muddled up sentences, this is a challeneg as we have to read every word and then see what makes sense. Everyone works as a team when we are doing this quick activity at the end of our literacy session.

This picture shows one of our story writing jitters. We have been writing stories about different ways to travel. Everyone thought of a story about travelling in a boat…. it was very interesting!

Primary Five Update

What a great week!

We have been learning all about Celtic Jewellery and artwork. On Thursday we had the opportunity to compare and contrast Celtic and Roman art work. We learned about the history of Roman Mosaics and we even got a chance to design some of our own.

Eva said “We enjoyed using bright colours and making patterns for our mosaics!”

As a part of our topic (The Romans and The Celts) we enjoyed learning all about the Roman invasion of the Celtic Territories. We used our map skills to identify the spread of the Roman Empire over hundreds of years.

Malinka said “I learned that the Romans took over most of Europe!”

This week was also our first session of ‘Better movers, Better thinkers’ with Mr Munro (AKA Andy!). We got to test our listening skills alongside our fitness level! We had to think hard whilst keeping moving at the same time!

Connor said “Mr Munro took us to the PE hall where we practiced our skills and played some games. I enjoyed the ball game where we had to grab the ball when the magic word was said!”

We are looking forward to another great week. Enjoy your weekend! : )

Catching up with P7😁 –

We have written letters to our local community to ask them for help to watch over our new garden when we are not in school. Within our letter we outlined some of the plans we have for the garden and in return for helping us to keep it safe we would like to be able to offer our local community some fruit and veg from our garden that we will grow ourselves. 🥕🍓🍅

We enjoyed a refreshing walk around our local community to deliver our letters and even enjoyed a wee sing song 🎼Someone’s knocking at the door, someone’s ringing my bell 🛎 🎼

Last week was Primary 7’s week for STEM! This term we have been given a STEM challenge. We began Phase 1 where we worked in small groups to research and select a landmark of our choice. We then began to think about what materials we could use to constrict this landmark and experimented with a few designs. Our final phase involved the construction of our complete landmark models. The children were very creative and made some excellent models!

This week we also engaged in some friendly competition during ICT when we competed as individuals and teams on a variety of maths challenges and contests to try and reach the top of the leaderboard. We enjoyed using the Sumdog maths app this week for these fantastic challenges.

Finally, to finish off this week we enjoyed some buddy time with Primary 1 and this week we began reading some non-fiction texts together. We then helped our buddies to pick and write an interesting fact about their book in their jotted. 😁✍️🌟

Primary 1 visited Stirling Castle!

Here are some of the photos from our trip on Friday to Stirling Castle. It was an amazing experience and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

Arriving at the castle! So exiting…

Who are these royal kings and queens?.??

We know how the knight stays safe in battle with his armour.

Look at these unicorns, they are the national animal of Scotland.

This Lady in waiting told us all about the baby queen Mary.

The queen’s bedroom was very impressive and her lady in waiting had beautiful clothes.

Look at the old leather football, she told us king James may have played with one like this when he was a little boy living at the castle.

In this room, we found eleven unicorns, then we got to make a wish.

The kitchen area was so interesting and would have been the hottest area of 5e castle.

We saw huge barrels of fruit and vegetables that would have been cooked for the king and queen at a banquet.

In the bakery the servants made all kinds of bread and pastry and cakes…yummy!

In the cosy storyteller’s room, we made some loud battle sounds.

Sylvia had lots of puppets to tell us stories.

We eat Rory the castle lion and heard an amazing story too.

Sylvia let us play with the puppets after the storytelling.

We loved the little castle mice puppets!

Look at this tiny mouse knight! Sylvia made all of the puppets herself.

The castle was full of cats in the olden days.

We came home with a big book about Rory and everyone got a t-shirt with Rory the castle lion on the front!

It’s great to be back 😁!

Primary 7 have had an excellent start to Term 3. They have returned to school prepared to work hard during this very important Term. During the past week the primary 7 children have taken on a special task called ‘The Garden Project’. We are delighted to have a garden area in our school and we couldn’t wait to go out and explore it!

We have written a letter to our local community to ask them to help keep an eye out for our garden when we are not in school. We hope to be able to thank them by giving them some of the fruit and vegetables that we are growing in the garden.

In this new term we are also enjoying looking at netball during our P.E lessons. We have practiced the bounce, shoulder and chest pass with our partners and we have even taken our defensive skills into group drills. Over the next few weeks we are looking forward to taking these skills into the game.

We have used our ICT time this week to develop our typing skills by using the Microsoft word software to choose and adjust the font, size and placement of text to type up our letters to the local authority.

Finally, we enjoyed spending some time reading in the library with out P1 buddies. It’s always great fun! 😁📚

Primary 1 update.

We have been learning a little more about the Holy Family and read the story of Mary and Joseph taking Jesus to Jerusalem.

Here are the clay owl song we made. We were investigating how  hard and soft materials and discovered that clay can be a soft and hard material.

Look at these winter moon paintings! We really like them and used lots of colours to make a winter sky. Then we wrote winter poems too! We are pretty smart, aren’t we?

In term 3, we are starting to write sentences all by ourselves. This is tricky at first, but as you can see, we are doing really well.

Learning with our buddies

This week, our P.6 buddies came down to class to teach us about the life cycles of different animals. After they had told us about these life cycles, we had to tell them one fact that we had learned about these animals. Some of the facts that we had learned were very impressive – some people were using words like metamorphosis! Wow!

Primary 1 Christmas week.

What a busy time we have had in school these past few weeks! Not only have we been busy with literacy and numeracy but we have also been busy getting ready for the Christmas show!

Here is a very smart P1 making and reading his own sentence – how clever.

Capital letter and the start and full stop at the end.

Look at these wonderful angels – we have been learning about the important news that the angel gave to Mary and the important news that the angel gave to the shepherds.

Hand print angels – how creative!

You will have seen us on the stage on Monday – weren’t we just superb? Our teacher was so proud of us and she could not stop smiling at us when we were singing and saying our lines and dancing on stage. It was a great show.

Also this week, we have been designing and making in the STEM zone. W made some models then tested them out to see if they would move!

Using the plans to make a model.

Look at this lovely flower!

It can be tricky to join some pieces together!

Working as a team to make a long chain.

My flower pot and flower.

We worked on our own and with friends. It was interesting to share ideas and help each other with the designs.

On Thursday, we had our party. It was an amazing afternoon and everyone loved the dancing, party games and we even had a visit from Santa ! Amazing!!!

A good old fashioned game of pass the parcel.

Party food time – delicious!

Santa said I looked just like a mini Santa!

Sharing our party food with each other.

A beautiful bunch of children!

Everyone in Primary 1 has had a fantastic first two terms and has learned so much in this time. We hope everyone has a brilliant Christmas and comes back safe and ready for more fun and challenges in the new year! Mrs Carlin will miss us terribly over these two weeks and will be looking forward to hearing all of our news in the new term.

P.2 at the panto!

Wow! What a day we had at the pantomime on Thursday! We went to see ‘Cinderella’ and it was BRILLIANT!

First, we lined up in school with our partners. After that, we went on the bus and had a good chat amongst ourselves.

Next, we arrived at the pantomime. Some of us had brought along cool Christmas clothing for the show. As for ‘Cinderella’, it was the best pantomime I’ve ever seen. We even got to meet the cast afterwards. We went back to school with ENORMOUS grins on our faces.

What a great day!
