P6a Daily Plan Wednesday 25.03.20

Good morning everyone! Here is the suggested plan for today. Please keep me up to date on Glow with how you are getting on and feel free to send me a picture of your tasks! I’d love to see your work.  Anything you need help with just give me a shout. Have a great day!

9.00 – 10.35

LITERACY

09:10-09:40 Spelling – Write your words 3 times. Do a vowel search (underline or circle the vowels in each word). Group 1 – choose 5 words from your grid that you have already covered. Group 2 – use your words that have been allocated for today.

Punctuation Focus – Open the document called ‘Punctuation Focus 25.03.20’ within the Literacy area of Glow. Re-write the paragraph adding punctuation. Look out for speech marks, commas, exclamation marks, capital letters and full stops.

09:40- 10:35 Reading

Diamonds and Emeralds – Within the Diamonds and Emeralds folder in the Literacy section, there is a folder called ‘The Curse of Cogston House’. This is a short story which you can read online. Read pages 1-15. In bullet points, record everything you learn about the setting of Cogston House and record the quotation which tells you this. For example:

  • Cogston house was a run down building which was not looked after:

“On the other side of a tangled row of bushes the broken looking building loomed.” (Page 3)

Try to find at least 5 things about what Cogston House looks like.

Rubies – Within the Rubies and Sapphires folder in the Literacy section, there is a folder called ‘Our teachers are superheroes’. This is an e-book. Read chapters 1-3. Create a ‘Main Events’ visualiser, like a spider diagram with all the main points. Remember to record page numbers.

Sapphires – Within the Rubies and Sapphires folder in the Literacy section, there is a folder called ‘The Old Toy Room’. This is a short story. Read the story and then do a Beginning Middle and End task. Summarise the beginning of the story in a few sentences and draw a picture, do the same for the middle and the end. Remember capital letters and full stops!

10:50-12:30

NUMERACY

Mental Maths 10:50-11:00

  • Open the folder called ‘Mental Maths’ within the Numeracy section of our Glow page. Complete ‘Wednesday’ of the second page.

11:00 – Story Time!!

  • Visit this link: https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/
  • At 11:00 David Walliams plays an audiobook on his website. Go on and listen to the story. Then message me on our Glow page to tell me what story it was. Tell me what the key points were.

11:45-12:30

  • Finish off any Maths tasks that you have’t finished over the past two days. Tell me on Glow how you are getting on with them and send me a picture if you like!
  • Play Sumdog for at least 30 minutes – The new challenge ends today. I wonder who will achieve the coins!!

1.15 – 3.00

Art and Design

  • Over the past few days, people have been creating rainbows and putting them on one of the windows of their house. This is to cheer people up if they are out walking past your house.
  • Your challenge is to design a rainbow on whatever materials you have available to use – paper or even cardboard.
  • Draw a rainbow and if you can, colour it to make it bright. You can use paint if you have paints (be careful not to make much mess), pencils, pens, crayons, whatever you have at home. Make it bright and eye-catching, so that people would notice it walking past your house.
  • I’d love to see your rainbows! Send me a picture if you can. Remember, if you are using paint, wait until the paint dries before putting it up on your window 🙂

You are all doing so well and I know you will be working really hard. Message me on Glow to let me know how things are going. Keep up the great work!

P4 Space Topic

This term P4 have been working on our new topic – SPACE!

I know that all of you boys and girls have been working really hard at home researching your topic and designing and creating lots of wonderful things!

Yesterday, P4 were asked to complete a design challenge – using whatever they could use from home. P4 were tasked with designing and creating an alien for their new planet.

Boys and girls, I was so impressed with all of your amazing and creative ideas! But as promised, there can only be one winner…

Introducing Mrs Glitter and Mr Dusty from Sparkle Planet:

Well done to our designer Cheyenne! What amazing work…Keep it up!

Thank you for all of your hard work P4! I’m very proud of how well your all doing at home.

Tuesday 24th March

Tuesday 24th March

Good morning everyone!

Following on from yesterday, here are some learning suggestions for today.

Literacy:

– Common Words: use the ‘Common Words PowerPoint’ on Glow to look at the new words (Glow > literacy > phonemes and common words > phonemes and common words of the week).

– If you have time, complete some of the challenges at the end of the PowerPoint. Please note that the Alligators group should use the common words within the ‘Alligators’ folder.

– Use the Doorway online website to practise some of your phonemes. Details for this website are on Glow (Glow > literacy > online games > online literacy games).

– Continue to read your book/choose a book from Oxford Owl to read with an adult.

Numeracy:

– Practise your 2, 4 & 8 times tables (Glow > numeracy > times tables > times tables chanting).

– Talk about ‘time’ with an adult. Share what you have learned so far.

– Log into Sumdog and choose the ‘time’ task. Start working your way through this. There are 250 questions on this task; you do not need to complete these all in one day. These can be done over time.

R.E.:

– I have uploaded an activity related to the Stations of the Cross. This can be done over 2 weeks. Choose 2-3 stations to do for each R.E. activity (Glow > Religious Education > Stations of the Cross).

–

Some of you have been sharing pictures and messages with me on Glow and Class Dojo. It has been lovely to see how everyone is doing. If you get a chance, please feel free to write on our class newsfeed on Glow, or via message on Class Dojo. I have set up some home dojo points to share with the children when they have shared their learning.

As always, if you need anything at all, please send me a message and I will be here all day to help. I hope everyone has a lovely day.

Kind Regards,

Miss McLaughlin
