Primary 1/2 explore “Our Street”.

As part of our topic this week, we wanted to plan a street of our own. We investigated what might be needed by the people living in our street, found out what a street plan looked like, explored different street designs then got to work!

We worked in cooperative groups, tried out a few ideas and changed our minds a few times. Each group was able to talk about their plan and explain why they had included some items and not others. We were also able to talk about why we had put certain things in certain places.

Exploring the layout of our streets to find out what we can include.

I We think the Church should be in the middle of the plan.

We’ve made our decisions and are now glueing everything into place.

We placed the park in the middle of the houses so that people can go and enjoy the park.

We put all of the houses and flats together. We chose different types of houses for people to live in.

We continued to explore different houses in art. Here we are completing our houses designs with water colour. Using water colour needed lots of skill and careful painting with thin brushes. We had to make sure that we used just the right amount of water to get the paint to glide on easily.image

In RE this week, we have continued to learn more about the church. We learned why we have stained glass windows in church – to remind us of the stories in the Bible. Here are the stained glass windows we made ourselves. We worked with a partner. You can see that we have also changed our altar cloth to green because it is ordinary time in the church year.

We worked hard as usual in maths and literacy…..

A busy week in Primary 2!

This week in Primary 2 we have been learning all about Robert Burns. We found out where he was from and some facts about his family. We also learned about his job and the types of poems and songs he wrote. Next week we are going to listen to more of his poems and try to learn some Scots words! We have been working very hard since we came back after the Christmas holidays so we won the Cool Class Cup. We loved having the wii this week and are getting very good at playing Just Dance!

Victorian Portraits…

Today we have been learning about a style of Victorian art called silhouette art. We looked at some examples and then we made our very own by cutting around our own silhouette photographs and then painting them back…

Year of Mercy painting in Pr7

As it is the year of Mercy this year, Primary 7 have been looking at the logo and the symbolism behind it. We have been exploring how Jesus looks like the good shepherd carrying mankind and how the two faces merge to only have three eyes, showing how Jesus can see things through our eyes. We have also been looking at the use of colour to show Jesus carrying us From darkness into light.

We all took a different focus and tried to recreate a part of the logo. Can’t wait to see the finished results.

Saint Bartholomew’s show spirited performance in the friendship tournament

Well done to the members of the school football team from primary 5, primary 6 and primary 7 who put in a good performance against Saint Mary’s.  They showed great character throughout the game and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship from the first whistle to the last.  A special well done to Ryan who scored three goals for the third game in a row! Their performances have been improving greatly and it won’t be long before they get a few wins under their belt.

IMPACT!!

Our Impact Pupil Voice group has gotten off to a great start this term!

Due to popular demand, we’re in the process of setting up a new ‘shop’ in St. Bartholomew’s. It will sell stationery items and other goods that the children of St. Bartholomew’s have decided they would like to see in our new shop.

First, we had a brainstorming session led by our Chairperson, Co-Chairperson and Secretary…

We decided to carry out a survey to find out what the rest of the children in the school would like to see in a stationery shop. We gave up our lunchtime to go to the ICT suite to create the questionnaire (how dedicated!)…

We’ve now carried out most of our surveys and we’re busy with purchasing and advertising. Watch this space!
