Thursday 26th March- Primary 7

Good morning Primary 7,

I hope that you are all keeping safe and trying your best to remain focused on your learning.

I have set up a reading and spelling challenge on Sum Dog that I would like you all to try and complete. These challenges will encourage you to revisit some affixes that we have looked at in class and different areas of punctuation.

Remember to do some personal reading and record this in your reading log.

To continue developing your mental maths skills you should sign up for Maths with Carol Vorderman. The website is www.themathsfactor.com. This is a great free resource and a fun way to do your number work.

I have uploaded a Spanish language challenge from the British Council website. Choose one or two of these activities to complete in order to educate yourselves about Spanish culture and develop your knowledge of the Spanish language.

Keep working on your activity grids and try hard to post pictures on Twitter so that I can see your smiling faces.

I hope everyone is managing to work through the home learning grids with little complications.

Good morning everyone 🙂

I hope you had a great day yesterday. I enjoyed reading your tweets and getting to see your smiley faces in the pictures and videos. I am very proud of how hard you are all working!

Today I would like you to keep working through your learning grids, choosing some tasks to complete. Remember to take plenty of breaks and get some fresh air in your garden.

Good Morning Primary 6

Here is Cressida Cowell reading Chapter 2 of “How to Train your Dragon”

After you have listened to both parts try to write some literal, inferential and evaluative questions and answers about the chapter. You can listen and watch more than once.

Just in case you have forgotten

Literal Comprehension – What it says

What is the Author saying?

Remember the facts
Identify the main ideas
Find the details
Summarise
Locate information and use clues to give meaning

Questions you should ask yourself

What words show the main ideas of the story?
How can you summarise what is happening?
What happens first, second, third and last?
How are the things that happen alike?
What things belong together?

Inferential Comprehension – How it says it

What am I understanding?

Read between the lines
Find clues/collect evidence
Have ideas
Make predictions
Judge the mood
Find the author’s point of view

Questions you should ask yourself

What is the author hiding?
What effect does this character have on the story?
What effect does this event have on the story?
What will happen now?
How can I prove my ideas?
What is the author’s message

Evaluative Comprehension – What it means to me

What do I think about this?

Why has the author written this way?
What are my feelings about these characters?
What are my feelings about these situations?

Questions you should ask yourself

Could this possibly happen?
Is this logical?
What other way could this story have gone?
Is my thinking fact or opinion?
Do I agree or disagree with the author’s message?

As you write your questions remember,

Inferential answers need evidence to back them up so inferential questions must be based on evidence in the first place.

Evaluative answers can be different for different people but again their views must be justified so your questions must relate closely to the story so that the opinion that they form makes sense.

I know that you might find the inferential questions tricky but that is why you need to collect your evidence first. Authors are always hiding something – sleuth them out!!

Write a short paragraph about what you have learned.

Please select a task from your grid today. Remember that there are set tasks waiting for you all on Sumdog and Studyladder.

Practise counting forwards and backwards in tenths starting at different numbers: eg 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, 5.9, 6, 6.1 or 29.1, 29, 28.9, 28.8, 28.7

Please complete four operation sums, one addition, one subtraction, one multiplication and one subtraction. Can you explain to a family member the steps that you followed?

Record yourself reading a short extract form your personal reader and watch it back. Did you sound fluent? Did you use the punctuation in the text as you read? Did you use expression? Did you use strategies for tricky words?

It is very important that you keep your mind and body active, but home learning is very different from lessons in school. Please feel free to adapt any suggested activities to suit your family life and remember to take regular breaks. You must also be missing your friends. There are many ways that you can keep in touch with your classmates and share what you have been doing.

Hello P4/3!!

Hello to my fabulous P4/3 class!

I hope you are all keeping well. I am missing all of your smiles. I have noticed some of you have been working hard on Sumdog – keep it up! Remember to log into First News and give some of the activities a try. I am loving all the pictures of you doing your workouts and writing your stories. Remember to use your grids to try a new task every day.

For those of you who love Strictly Come Dancing, Oti Mabuse is hosting dance classes every morning at 11.30. They are great fun!

I am sure some of you will be missing your usual yoga and meditation so I have included some little breathing tips below, a lovely way to end the day.
