Happy Holidays Primary 3!

Good Morning primary 3,

The summer holidays are finally here! 🌞

The last few months have not been the ending to the year that we had planned but I want you to know how proud I am of each and every one of you. You have been working so hard and have continued to make me smile with your fantastic work. I have loved every minute of being your teacher this year and I cannot wait to see your smiling faces in August.

Have a fantastic holiday everyone. Never forget how wonderful you are.

Take care and stay safe.

R.E – Friday 19th June

Good morning boys and girls!😊

I hope you have all enjoyed Health Week and have being staying active.

Throughout this week you have been learning about different saints. You have learned about St. Anthony and St. John the Baptist. Today we are going to look at what it means to be a saint. What does someone have to do to be considered a saint?

Please cut and paste the link below to find out how someone can become a saint. Some of our younger children may wish to ask an adult to help them read the information.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/32772092

As the article explained, saints are very special people. Watch the video below to see what makes them so special.

Now choose one of the following tasks to show what you have learned.

Task 1:

In your jotter write down the five steps to becoming a saint. You may also wish to draw a picture to show each of the five steps.

Task 2:

Choose a saint you admire and complete the worksheet below. You may have to do some research. Can you find out what this person did to become a saint?

I hope you have all had a lovely week.

I would like to say thank you and a big well done for all of your hard work. I am very proud of you all.

Literacy

Reading:

For reading today I would like you to chose a book you enjoy and read it quietly to yourself. When you have completed your book you can fill out the book review below. Remember you do not have to print out the sheet as you can just answer the questions in your jotter.

Book Review

Spelling:

Friday is usually our spelling test day. I would like you to choose 5 phoneme words from this week and test yourself. To do this you can read, cover, write and check the words in your jotter. This is just like the way we do it in class.

Grammar and Punctuation:

Can you remember when we looked at putting words into alphabetical order?

Have a look at the power point below to remind yourself what this means. It will give you some challenges along the way that you can complete in your jotter.

Alphabetical Order

Numeracy

Number Talks:

Choose one question to complete in your head.

Red – 78 – 9 =

Amber – 84 – 23 =

Green – 63 – 36 =

What strategy did you use?

I will post answers and suggested strategies at 3:00pm today.

For our main numeracy task today we are going to be taking part in a Sumdog competition.

This is a North Lanarkshire competition for primary schools.

To qualify we need all of our class to log on a play.

Good luck!!

R.E

As today would have been our final First Friday Mass of the school year I would like you to follow Father Campbell’s mass at 10.00 am on Facebook (with an adult’s permission).

Remember to have your SSP (Special Sneaky Playtime).  Hopefully the sun will be shining.

Let’s get active with some more Yoga practice.  Remember all the good advise Mrs McFall gave on Monday!  Enjoy and make sure you drink plenty.

Well done – we have definitely kept our bodies well looked after this week!

Wonderful Work

Next week all of the teachers in St. Barbara’s will be returning to school to organise classrooms and learning for you all coming back in August.  There will be new updated grids for you to use from next week until the end of the term. Literacy

Today is our taught writing day. We are going to continue our work on narrative writing.

I would like you to write an imaginative story. Please watch the short video below to remind you what that is.

Today you are going to be deciding what your story is about. The only rule is that it must be imaginative and based on one of the pictures below.

Below you will see 3 pictures. I would like you to choose one of the pictures and that will give you the setting for your story.

When you are finished please send them to me at gw17mcmullenkenedi@glow.sch.uk

I cannot wait to read all of your wonderful ideas!

Today is our last day of revising multiplication.

To begin please cut and paste the link below to play a round of hit the button.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

You can choose any table to work on. Can you beat my highest score of 25?

Send me your score so we can assign a new class champion.

Today we are going to bring together all of the multiplication strategies we have learned. I would like you to choose one multiplication problem e.g. 3 x 5

Red – choose from the 2, 5 or 10 times tables.

Amber – choose from the 2, 5, 10 or 3 times tables.

Green – choose from the 3 or the 4 times tables.

Please use a ruler and lay out your page like the example below.

We were talking yesterday about how important it is to look after our bodies. Drinking plenty especially during exercise and warm weather to keep us hydrated.  Our bodies are amazing things.

Here is a little activity to keep you busy and at the same time learn about all of the parts that make up ‘US’!!

Have you got a roll of wallpaper lying around or if you have been receiving lots of packages (did you know all our posties are busier than their busiest time of the year, Christmas!) during lockdown and have cardboard boxes around I want you to lie them flat on the ground and get someone in your house to draw round you.  (The weather’s not looking that good today but should be dry so even do this task outside).

Here we have our template!!  Can you label and identify as many parts of the human body – all our organs?  See if you can have a good guess at where they are located.  Our heart should be easy, what about our lungs, liver etc.  Try to see how many you can find.  You could even put your artistic talents to good use and draw them in.

Remember to email your marvellous pictures to gw17mcmullenkenedi@glow.sch.uk or upload it onto Twitter with an adult’s permission.

R.E

As we know things just now are very different from what we are used to.  By now our new Primary 1 children would have been in to visit the school but, like you, they have not been able to come in for their visits.  We are thinking that it would be a lovely idea for you to say a little prayer for them.  In order to make them feel welcome to our school in August, I would like you to choose the word for your stage below, write/colour it on a sheet of paper, hold it up and ask an adult to take a picture of you holding your word with a big smile and if it is possible you could wear your uniform.  Please email your picture to (Teacher’s Glow email).  We will use these to make our Primary 1’s feel very welcome in school.

A    Great   Big      Welcome     To     St.     Barbara’s!

Primary 1 – A; Primary 5 – Great; Primary 4 – Big; Primary 6 – Welcome; Primary 2 – To; PRIMARY 3 – St. (remember the dot); Primary 7 – Barbara’s!

Do you remember our Easter Message?

We still miss you lots !!

Have a wonderful day boys and girls and please get in touch if you have any questions.

Take care!

Miss McMullen 😊🌈
