School Improvement
We aspire to be an excellent, active learning community focused on continuous improvement. We take pride in the high quality teaching and learning experiences we plan for our children and in our commitment to the care and welfare of each child in our care. We are committed to meeting the needs of each child within a supportive and challenging environment. We treat all of our children fairly and equally and, as a Catholic school, we respect the dignity accorded to each human person.
We value our staff, our partnership with parents and carers, our Parish Priest, our local Nursery Centres and all those in the wider community of St. Barbara’s. We value the opinions of our children and try to involve them meaningfully in respect of school improvement.
School Improvement Priorities
2022/2023
The Annual Improvement Plan has been submitted to NLC (August 2022). Once it has been ratified, the priorities will be published here.
2021/2022
There are four priorities on the School Improvement Plan which was a
greed in May 2021. They are:
| Cluster Priority: | To improve attainment in literacy and close the poverty related attainment gap by ensuring earliest and effective intervention. |
| School Priority 1: | To ensure equity for all learners and to close the attainment gap in response of COVID-19 , specifically in respect of Literacy and Numeracy. There will be a specific focus on improving writing. In Numeracy and Mathematics the focus will be on embedding the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach across the school. |
| School Priority 2: | Establish a digital pedagogy across all stages of the curriculum, which engages learners and delivers a high quality learning experience for all children and young people. |
| School Priority 3: | To support further the mental, social, emotional, physical and spiritual health of all children, families and staff in the school. |
Catholic schools select a theme from the Catholic evaluative document, ‘Developing in Faith’ as part of the school improvement cycle and this is incorporated into Priority 2. The school will focus on the theme of ‘Serving the Good.’
