P4/3 Wednesday 6th May

Hello everyone, thank you to those of you who sent me work yesterday.  I have a little issue just now with my inbox and can therefore not reply.  I am working on this today!  But rest assured, I have seen all  your work and I am very proud of you for working hard and completing the tasks.

RE

Morning prayer and a Hail Mary.  The month of May is a special time to pray to Our Lady.  After Easter, when we say a Rosary, we would say the Glorious Mysteries.  The first Glorious Mystery is the Resurrection of Jesus.  Try to say a Hail Mary and thank God for the Resurrection.

Literacy

Revise your common words or phoneme words.  Ask an adult to dictate a sentence to include these words.  Remember to include capital letters and full stops.

Today I would like to focus on Instructional Writing.  Look at the powerpoint below to revise how to do this:

Instructional Writing ppt

You may choose to write instructions on how to make your favourite sandwich or how to bake your favourite type of cake.  Remember to ask yourself, could someone easily follow these instructions?  If we were in class right now, I would say “If an alien came to Earth from another planet, would they be able to follow these instructions and successfully make the sandwich or bake the cake?”

I have attached a template for you if you wish but please don’t feel the need for it if you can’t print it out.  It’s a guideline to the layout.

Writing Instructions template

You must include the “Things  you need” for example, the ingredients and the utensils such as bowl, wooden spoon, knife etc.

Each instruction should begin with:

  • First
  • Then
  • Next
  • Finally

If you need more than four steps, can you think of different words to add? (eg. secondly, thirdly, after that)

I look forward to reading them and perhaps trying them out with my girls. 😉

Numeracy

Yesterday I told you how division is the inverse of multiplication.  To see this relationship more clearly, try the following game.

(If you have trouble clicking this link then copy it and paste it into your address bar)

Using your times table to 6, show me 5 examples of how division is the inverse of multiplication.  You may use examples from the game you have just played.

We are approaching the celebration of VE day, which stands for Victory in Europe day.  It is the day Germany was defeated by the Allied forces marking the end of the Second world war.  You can read more about it here:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/48201749

Have a go at this comprehension task which tells you important facts about VE day.  There are questions to answer.

*Note to parents: there are 3 differentiated tasks here, I would expect P3 to be able to do the first one and P4’s to the second one, however you can choose which one best suits your child’s ability.)

VE Day Differentiated Reading Comprehension Activity

Have a lovely day everyone and weekend (Mrs Boyce with you tomorrow!).
