Primary 1a 28/4/2020

Good morning, boys and girls. I hope you are all well and keeping busy.

How did you get on with your tasks yesterday? Hopefully you managed to get some of them finished.

Today, we are going to start with some exercises to waken you up!  I thought that you would enjoy another yoga session.  Today, you are going to watch and follow a programme of your choice.  Here is the link:

Remember to have some water handy.  You need to keep your body hydrated during and after exercise.

Now that you are all wide awake, let’s get on with our literacy work.

Phonics

Our common words today are words that you already know! However, I need you to practise them so that you are an expert at writing these words.  They are:

this

that

then

with

us

so

much

of

us

now

new

out

So there are 12 words for you to practise today.

First of all I want you to write each word 3 times – just the way we do it in class!

Now, I would like you to write out each word in CAPITAL LETTERS!

Like this – THIS, THAT, THEN etc.

Great!  Now, let’s see if you can read these sentences, copy them down and put in the missing words.  Each missing word is one of the common words  we are practising today.

  1. I went to the shop ——– my mum and dad.
  2. I got a ———- toy for my birthday.
  3. There is too ——- water in that cup.
  4. I am going to the shop ——- I am going to the park.
  5. Do you want to come ——– to play with me.

How did you get on with your reading tasks yesterday? Did you manage to find lots of common words in your book ?

Today you can pick another new book.

Look at the title and the picture on the front cover of the book and see if you can tell what the book is going to be about.

Tell your mum or dad what an author does.

Now tell them what an illustrator does.

I hope you can remember! If not, they can remind you.

Now I would like you to read your book 2 or 3 times.  Remember to sound out tricky words and look at the pictures to help you.

Now, can you think of a ‘who’ question about your book?

Can you think of a ‘what’ question about your book?

Can you think of a ‘where’ question about your book?

Ask your mum or dad these questions and see if they know the answers.

You can draw a picture of your favourite character and write about what they are doing.

Time for some number work.

See the source imageBegin today again by counting and clapping to 30.

Now, count and clap from 30 to 0.

Remember to do your days, months and seasons.

We are going to do some counting and matching today so get your thinking caps on!

Boys and girls, here is a beautiful book for you to enjoy.  When you click on the pages the book will read to you so you don’t need to read it by yourselves.

It is all about the seasons because that’s what we are learning about just now.

When we are looking at our world, it is important to remember that all the beautiful things that grow and live in our world are gifts from God.  We need to remember that God loves all of the animals, birds, fish, plants and flowers very much.  It is very important that we look after them and do everything we can to protect them.  We should be thankful for them every day.

Here is a link to one of your favourite bible stories – The Story of Creation.  I know you will enjoy it!

I hope you have a great day boys and girls.  Remember; only do what you can manage!

Take care,

Mrs Connolly.
