That’s right! You have nearly completed another week of home learning and golden time is just around the corner!
Well done boys and girls!
The quicker we get started on today’s task, the quicker you will be able to start golden time!
We will begin our day as always, with our morning prayer.
God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us use properly, the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together in school. St. Barbara, pray for us.
Here is today’s overview:
Literacy
Instructional Writing
Today we are going to continue with instructional writing. Last week you were writing instructions on how to wash your hands properly.
Over the weeks, you have been writing instructions to explain how to make or do something.
We want the reader to be able to follow the instructions and do the task on their own.
Instructions are always in chronological order(that’s a fancy way of saying time order).
They should have:
A title- What are you going to make or do?
What you need- A list of materials, ingredients, equipment or tools that you need to complete the task.
What to do- Explain what to do, one step at a time, in the correct order.
Pictures- These pictures help the reader to follow the instructions easily.
Today you are going to become a professional gardener.
Dippy wants to plant a seed but he doesn’t know how to. Do you think you could write instructions today to explain how to plant a seed.
First I would like you to watch this video clip to help you learn how to plant a seed. Remember you need to listen carefully so that you understand each instruction.
Now that you know how to plant a seed, do you think you could write simple instructions to help Dippy learn how to plant a seed?
I have included a document below with pictures and words to help you.
First, then, next and last will help you order your sentences.
Write the instructions in your jotter. You can use the picture below to help you.
Maybe you could try planting a seed one day now you are a professional.
Maths
Today you will be continuing to learn more about Time.
Activities that happen at certain times of the day
We are going to begin by talking about activities that happen at certain times of day. We do different activities in the morning, afternoon and evening.
When do you eat breakfast? In the morning.
When do you go to sleep? At night.
Look at the pictures below whether you would and discuss with your mum or dad whether you would do the activity in the morning, the afternoon or at night.
Can you think of one more thing that you do in the morning, afternoon and at night?
Label the parts of a clock
Yesterday you were learning about the main parts of the clock. Can you point and name each part of the clock below.
Can you remember which hand is the hour hand and which hand is the minutes hand? Remember a clue is to look carefully at the size of the hands.
How did you get on yesterday making your own clock faces? I loved seeing pictures of some of the clocks that you created.
Telling the Time
Counting is essential for time-telling.
To help the process of learning how to tell the time, encourage your child to practise counting from 1 to 60 in the correct order.
If they can count from 1-60, move on to counting in groups of 5 – remember to point out that when you count in fives, every number ends in a 5 or 0.
Remember boys and girls:
The long hand represents minutes.
The short hand represents hours.
If you have a clock in the house, use it to help explain the following to your child:
There are 60 seconds in one minute. When the long hand goes right round the clock that is 60 seconds.
There are 60 minutes in one hour. When the short hand goes right round the clock that is 60 minutes.
The Hour Hand
Today you will be learning how to tell the time to the hour on the analogue clock.
The analogue clock face is just a special kind of number line. A clock is just a circular number line from 1 to 12.
When the short hand points to a number, this tells us how many hours it is.
When the minute hand is pointing to 12, it is showing a full hour.
We call this time ‘o’clock’.
On this clock, the hour hand is pointing at the 4 and the minute hand is pointing to the 12.
This clock is showing that the time is 4 o’clock.
I would like you to read this PowerPoint carefully. It will give you a step-by-step guide of how to tell the time using o’clock. At the end there is a little quiz to test how well you have been listening.

One way to help your child grasp a better understanding of time is to draw your child’s attention to time. Mention the time at different points in the day. For example, you could say, ‘it’s 5 o’clock – time for tea,’ or ‘it’s 7 o’clock – time for a bath.’
HWB
It is very important for us to talk about how we are feeling. It is especially important now as some of you may be worried about the changes we have all had to make in the last few months. Talking to someone, exercising and relaxing are all great ways to help your health and wellbeing and keep you feeling happy. Today I would like you to play the lanterns game below where you write down how you are feeling and what has made you feel that way. You will then see your feeling float up into the sky.

Now we are going to do some Jump Start Jonny to help us get some fun exercise and make us smile!

Click on whichever video you like or do all three! My favourite is I like to move it it certainly gets your heart beating!
Now for some relaxing time. A great way to relax is by doing yoga. Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing.
Why not send us some pictures of you taking part in any of the exercises you have been doing today. Send to gw13mceleneylauren@glow.sch.uk or Tweet @St_BarbarasPS
R.E.
We have been learning how Jesus prayed for his friends and for all of us and how he taught his disciples to pray to our Heavenly Father. We know that saying our prayers is very important. On the accompanying illustration of Jesus praying, draw pictures or write names in the thought bubble of yourselves and some of the other people Jesus was praying for. You could choose your families and friends, as well as our brothers and sisters throughout the world.

Colour your picture in when you have finished writing in the names of your family and friends. Now show someone your picture and tell them how much you love them and that you will remember them in your prayers.
Please send us a copy of your picture at gw13mceleneylauren@glow.sch.uk or Tweet us @St_BarbarasPS
Thank you parents for your continued support during this challenging time. I really appreciate everything you are doing to help your child with their home learning. Thank you for sending me pictures regularly, I am missing the kids lots and it is great to see their little faces. The pictures and videos certainly put a smile on my face.
Boys and girls I want to say a huge well done to you. You have been working so hard at home and trying your best even though it can be very tricky at times. Well done my Superstars. You should be so proud of yourselves.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Take care,
Miss McEleney
