Primary 1a – Wednesday 13th May

Good morning boys and girls, it’s Wednesday again! I hope that you are all well and keeping busy. Let’s begin our day with our morning prayer:

God our Father, as we prepare to begin our work, we ask you to help us to use properly the many gifts you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together. St Barbara pray for us.🙏

Literacy – This week we have a new phoneme ‘ph’ making the sound f. What words can you think of using the ‘ph’ phoneme?

Usually in class we use our magnetic boards to practise with a friend, if you have one at home please try to do this with someone in your family, if not you can practise writing the words out.

dolphin, elephant, phone, phonics, photo, trophy

Strategy:

Say the word out loud – dolphin 🐬

Make the word/break the word – d      o      l     ph      i      n

Blend the word (push the sounds together) – dolphin

Read the word –  📖dolphin

Write the word 📝           Try to use this strategy with each word.

Written task – In your jotter write the heading ‘The Phoneme Ph’ – now copy and complete…

phone           ___________                ____________
photo            ___________                ____________
elephant       ___________                ____________
phonics         ___________                ____________

1. In school we learn ________ to help us with our spelling.

2. The ___________ used his trunk to drink some water.

3. The _________ rang so I answered it.

4. I looked very smart in my school __________.

It is also important to practise reading all of the common words in your word box, remember to write out your 3 new words and add them to your box – one, first, little.  Practise writing these words in a fun way.

Reading – I have assigned a new book for you to begin today on scholastic.  Firstly I would like you to listen to the story, then read it aloud to a member of your family and answer the quiz questions orally.

Numeracy–  For the rest of the week we are going to focus on subtraction. Remember… subtracting means taking away and taking away always makes the number smaller.

Topmarks – subtraction to 10 game.

RE – May is the month of Mary, let’s say a special ‘Hail Mary’ for all those who are sick in our world. Yesterday Mrs Connelly told you the story of Our Lady of Fatima, I thought that you might like to watch this little video.

Health– Choose your favourite active activity today, it may be a daily walk or cycle, it may be Cosmic Yoga, Jump Start Johnny or workout with Joe Wicks, you choose.

I hope you have a great day.  If you need any help please contact me: gw09wallacemarie2@glow.sch.uk
