S2 Options

As the S2 Subject Options are fast approaching… we have created a simple Infographic that gives information on the four subjects we offer; Design & Manufacture, Engineering Science, Graphic Communication and Practical Woodworking.

All S2 pupils will be issued a printed copy over the next week or so to take home and this will be discussed in more detail by their Technical teacher.

Race for the Line 2018 – Season 3

We are very excited to be taking part in this years Race for the Line event!

All of our S1 classes are going to begin their rocket car designing and building from Monday 22nd January in Technical. Each class have been given 4 periods to work in teams of 4 or 5 to design and build their rocket car.

With all going well … the rocket cars will be ready in plenty of time and we will be able to do some test runs (minus the mini rocket explosion) along the Tech corridor to test individual designs/wheel alignment etc.

Our school race day is on Thursday, 1st March from 10am to 3pm where all S1 pupils will race their team cars with the overall winners from the day qualifying to take part in the regional finals and from there possibly (hopefully) qualifying for the National final. The race day is ran by our local hub with engineers from 32 Signal Regiment and City of Glasgow College.

Christmas Cupcake Project

Over the past couple of weeks, our S2 classes have been working hard on a cross-curricular Christmas Cupcake project with Home Economics. They used their Graphic Design skills to design a surface development of cupcake packaging and then assembled and decorated the final piece. This packaging was then taken to their Home Economics class where the displayed some fantastic hospitality skills by baking and decorating a Christmas Cupcake. A fantastic effort from all involved in what was a very popular festive task! With over 200 fabulous creations here are some of the highlights…

June 19, 2017 by User deactivated | 0 comments

On Friday, 9th June, our Young Engineers Club attended the SCDI Celebration of STEM event at Glasgow Science Centre. Our team for St Andrew’s High School, in the Newcomers category, was represented by Croix Duffy, Courtney Cheyne and Ciara O’Pray of S2. The pupils took part in a range of STEM based activities throughout the day, including; Construct a Crane challenge, Project Presentation and 3 minute STEM challenges set by several different supporting partner companies. We had a fantastic day investigating and celebrating the importance of STEM  in everyday life, however the highlight for our team was impressing the judging panel enough to win the Newcomer Award 2017!
