Talent Show

We had a great afternoon of talent in our gym hall.  The whole school and the nursery enjoyed watching the footballers, gymnasts, actors, singers, dancers, sketchers, impressionists, karate and tricks from our talented pupils.  Thank you to our hosts for the afternoon also. What a show! DSCN3616 DSCN3615 DSCN3619 DSCN3614 DSCN3612 DSCN3621 DSCN3622 DSCN3624 DSCN3607 DSCN3610 DSCN3617 DSCN3609 DSCN3620

Smile!

As part of our World of Work week, we had an introduction to dentistry.   P6/7 pupils were looking at the effects of smoking and the dental nurses produced a jar containing tobacco and a set of teeth.   It was fascinating to see the different equipment and examples of tooth decay and it was so realistic as we could even experience the SMELL of decay…… Lovely!   Pupils were shocked to see the different cancers that were found on the tongue, the gums and the mouth and I think that this had the biggest impact on each of them.

The staff also highlighted the levels of sugar that are found in many of the foods that pupils regularly eat, such as Jaffa Cakes, and Rice Crispies.   They counted the spoonfuls of sugar and were so shocked to find that there are 6 teaspoons of sugar in a Jaffa Cake.   I’ll certainly not be eating as many of those anymore!   Toward the end,  we gave pupils the opportunity to master the brushing of their teeth.

Your Coming with Me!

We were surprised and delighted to get a visit from 2 Police Officers who were at the school to give pupil’s some advise as to how to stay safe during the summer.

P6/7 had the opportunity to investigate and try out some of the equipment and experience what it felt like to wear a pair of handcuffs and restraining straps.   Each pupil jumped at the chance to be cuffed and both Officers were a great support and help to them.

They were all very inquisitive and when I asked them if they had thought about joining the Police Force, many said that they had not but now wanted to.

It was a great end of the week and a perfect time to begin our World of Work week.

Summer Outing

Primary 4/5 and 6/7 recently enjoyed a trip to the cinema to watch the new Angry Birds movie. After the cinema, we enjoyed a picnic and played games at Chatelherault Country Park. Lots of fun was had by all.
