School Entrances

Due to the high volume of building work taking place around the school, it has been decided that the bottom gate at the Shawhead flats will be locked and out of use for pupils and parents. There are a lot of large vehicles and heavy equipment in this area and in order to keep children away from this, the gate will be closed for the foreseeable future. Parents and carers will be informed if this decision changes.  The top gate and the side gate at the lane are both open for use.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast clubs

Primary school breakfast clubs provide an excellent start to the school day.

They aim to:

  • provide a healthy nutritious meal
  • help children to be alert and ready to learn
  • encourage children to mix with their friends
  • improve attendance and performance throughout the day
  • reassure parents that their child is safe when dropped off in the morning

All primary schools in North Lanarkshire operate a breakfast club.

Shawhead Primary breakfast club is open from 8.15am until 8.45am.

The breakfast consists of cereal, milk and toast. This is free to pupils who are in Primary 1 to 4 and for pupils in Primary 5 to 7 who receive free school meals. For all other pupils the cost is £1 per day with a sliding scale for families of two at £1.50 per day and families of three at £1.80 per day.

Stay and Play Invitation for New Primary 1 Children

Primary 1 Transition – August 2021

Stay and Play Invitation

3rd June 2021 – 2.00pm-2.45pm

16th June 2021 – 11.00am-12 noon

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted to be able to invite you and your child to two Stay and Play sessions in our school playground.  We ask that you and your child come to school on the dates above, wearing suitable clothes for being outdoors. Mrs Barton and I will spend time with you and your child and will have some fun activities planned. Your child will get to use our playground equipment and we will get the opportunity to get to know them.

This has been a very different school year for everyone, so we have had to make changes to the sessions, but they will still be enjoyable for everyone. We ask that only one adult comes to the session to keep the risk of transmission to a minimum. In the event that these events cannot take place due to a change in Covid restrictions, we will let you know in advance.

Kind regards,

Helen Paterson
