Home Learning Pack

All children have been issued with a home learning pack to use in the event of school closure or self-isolation. Within the packs there are various worksheets and activities to keep children learning at home. There are also login details to Sumdog and Glow. Within Glow, the children have been allocated to a ‘team’ and can access a range of resources that have been uploaded for them by class teachers. A Glow help sheet has also been uploaded to Twitter and the website to help support children and parents to access this resource.

World’s Largest Lesson

In Term 3, Shawhead Primary will be taking part in the World’s Largest Lesson as part of our Rights Respecting Silver Award.

World’s Largest Lesson introduces the Sustainable Development Goals to children and young people everywhere and unites them in action.

There are 17 Global Goals to achieve these 3 extraordinary things by 2030:

END EXTREME POVERTY.
FIGHT INEQUALITY AND INJUSTICE.
TACKLE CLIMATE CHANGE.

At Shawhead we want our children to grow up in a world of equality, justice and fairness. We aim to teach them how they can use their voice to make positive impacts on their life, their community and the whole world.

World Toilet Day 2019

The children have learned about the importance of sanitation as part of World Toilet Day. As a Rights Respecting School, the children know that they have the right to privacy and safe living conditions, and unfortunately over 4 billion people in the world do not have access to adequate facilities. The children are gaining an awareness of the world and the challenges faced by a lot of people.

Kilbowie 2019

The children in Primary 7 had a fantastic time at Kilbowie. They participated in activities including skiing, orienteering, rock climbing and hill walking. It was a great opportunity for them to increase their independence, try new activities and improve their team working and communication skills. They met new people, formed new friendships and provided support for each other on this exciting adventure. A great time was had by all!

Challenge Poverty Week

On 7th-13th October we took part in a range of lessons and activities to help highlight poverty in Scotland. We focused on the relevant area of homelessness, the causes of it, the misconceptions surrounding it and the impacts on people. We would like to thank our generous parents, the Shawhead community and Lidl for the kind donations for our local foodbank. Our children have displayed a maturity and sensitivity this week that has been impressive and inspiring. They are developing into responsible citizens and we are very proud of their hard work.

Rights Respecting Focus Week

This week we are having a focus on the UNICEF Rights of the Child. We are currently a Bronze Award school and are working towards our Silver Award this session.  The children are learning their rights and the responsibilities that come with having rights. We want to ensure that every child at Shawhead Primary knows their rights and feels respected at school. Activities the children are participating in include designing a mascot, rock painting and creating class charters.
