We have been learning………

The children have been developing their numeracy skills in all aspects of their play, from counting in how many children there are in their group, making simple calculations, to chopping vegetables to follow the recipe of “tattie, carrot and leek soup”, which we are sure many families enjoyed tasting.

SID and SHANARRI have been joining the children throughout the nursery as they are learning what it means to be Safe, Healthy, Active, Nurtured, Achieving, Respected, Responsible and Included.  Why don’t you ask your child to tell you how SID and SHANARRI have been helping them as they explore the well-being wood.

Early Level Christmas songs

The following are the songs the children will be singing for Santa at their Christmas party on Friday. We hope there are a few you will be familiar with so that you can join in too! Remember – the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

When Santa got stuck up the chimney

10 little presents

Rudolph the red nose reindeer

I’m a little reindeer

If you’re Rudolph and you know it

Celebration of learning with our families at Shotts Nature Park

A big thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us in celebration of our achievements over the last 10 weeks. The children were really proud and responsibly led the way to learning circle where they completed their tasks together by finishing the guardian of the forest.

Many thanks  to Shirley and her team for making the learning opportunities exciting and for introducing us to Elaine and our buddies from Calderhead High School whom we hope to keep a partnership with.

We hope that many of our families will continue to learn outdoors with their children.

More information on future Forest School sessions will be shared at our “Have your say” consultations in January 2017.

The  Christmas party was the perfect end to our  nature park adventure. Our buddies had worked really hard to provide us with an amazing party. We played a few party games, had some food and Santa paid us a little visit too.

All the children will miss their buddies kindness, enthusiasm and friendship. We have been so fortunate that these young adults have been part of out learning journey.  Thanks Calderhead High School!!!!

Developing literacy at the early level

Over the course of the week the children have been developing their mark making skills, with chalk, pencils and paint.

The “Three Read” approach in nurturing early readers continues to take place on a daily session to help children develop really important literacy skills, understanding how books work, understanding stories, listening and talking about their ideas and experiences.

With frequent experience of the “Three Read” approach, children should develop their talking, thinking and listening skills, which are the foundations of learning to read and write
