And so the learning continues

Over the previous couple of  weeks the children have been exploring line and pattern.  They have demonstrated that they can follow vertically and horizontally using a tartan plaid as a visual stimulus.

Using ICT to research their own clan tartan a number of children have creatively designed their own, where others have explored pattern making using sensory materials. Why not stop and have a look on the display wall.

Cooking and baking experiences have been extremely popular. This has enabled the children to explore print, quantities and above all develop skills for life using real tools and implements.  We hope you have all enjoyed tasting their finish product.  It was lovely to see a mum being invited by their child to join in this experience and share their learning together.

Our plans are now firmly in place for our transition  with Dykehead Primary School which we are so proud of with our theme being “transition for families”.Information from St Patricks Primary and Stane Primary will be given direct from the school.

And so to our Tartan Day, an accumulation of the children’s learning throughout the month.  We learnt new songs, read stories in Scots, found out where Scotland was and in particular that they lived in a village called Shotts.

Many of the children are experiencing difficulties when getting themselves ready for outdoor learning, therefore we would like to ask your assistance in helping to practice these skills with your children at home and more importantly when you are dropping them off and picking them up. Please can you check that your child’s clothing is clearly labelled with their name and they have a full set of clothing in their nursery bag. Any hats, gloves and scarfs left behind can be found in the spare hat and glove box in the cloakroom.

This is just a small snapshot of the the learning as we are now going to be using Twitter @CemtreShotts to share the children’s learning on a daily basis rather than uploading pictures on the BLOG. The BLOG will continue to be used to share on a weekly basis what’s on throughout the week.

We hope that the children will enjoy the Yoga sessions over the next four weeks. Please remember to pay your £1 to Isabel or Lynn on a weekly basis.

The weekly  Bookbug family sessions continue to be really well attended. This block we are reading the story of “Whatever Next”by Jill Murphy. Remember this session is opened to all family members and childminders. It’s great to see so many dads supporting their children during these opportunities.
