Engaging in early literacy in the outdoor learning environment

The Rainbow Room enjoyed their first family session with Jen, Amanda today. We visited the large football park taking lots of balls, the parachute and a role poly pumpkin. During this time we concentrated on early literacy, communication and having lots and lots of fun whilst playing together

We used lots of descriptive words such as rolling, down, up, over, under, big splash, squidgy grass, muddy puddles, kick the ball and parachute.

The children particularly enjoyed jumping and dropping the pumpkin into the puddles, putting the balls on the parachute and running under it and especially rolling the pumpkin, balls and themselves up and down the big hill.

It was great to utilise the outdoor learning environment to support parental engagement whilst developing  children’s emerging literacy through play.  I wonder what’s in store for next week.
