Book Week Scotland – Day 3
Children returned to nursery today keen to bring their literacy skills to life once again, through explorations of the local community. We had return visits to the nature park and library, as well as taking our enthusiasm to our local care home where the children were taking turns to both talk and listen to the residents, sharing stories.
Tomorrow is our last day of Book Week Scotland and we are planning to welcome pupils from Caldrerhead High School, including Oscar, Alan, Graeme and Gemma, into the playroom to share their literacy skills through story-telling. We are also excited to have Natalie joining us in the afternoon to bring stories to life through Gymnastics, so please ensure your children are wearing comfortable clothing.
Scottish Book Week – Day 2
The enthusiasm for Book Week Scotland continued today as the children excitedly made their choices of where they were going to take their learning today.
Along with some brave parent helpers some groups of children got wrapped up warm to go on their Gruffalo trail, by looking out for, reading and solving the clues, both morning and afternoon children successfully located the Gruffalo. I wonder if we will have the same success tomorrow!
Meanwhile in the playroom, we were learning through books in all areas, whether making cakes after listening to the story ‘Katie’s Pairty’ or creating our own stories from our imagination. We also welcomed a keen parent helper from the local community into the story corner to share her valuable expertise in story telling and rhyme.
Due to popular demand we revisited both the library and Story Yoga and massage from yesterday and it looks like this pattern will continue all week.
Tinkering Table
“Tinkering fuels a child’s natural curiosity about life. It develops fine motor and manipulative skills, promotes the language of skill, higher order thinking, problem solving and conceptual understandings the children discover as they tinker.
Tinkering provides opportunities to pull apart, to investigate, to plan, to rebuild, redesign and to construct”
The children are looking for donations of old clocks, radios, small electrical appliances for them to tinker with at the newly installed area in the nursery
Purves Puppets
The coach will leave at 9 am prompt and return at approx 1.30pm on both Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th of November.
Please bring a small drink and snack for you and your child to have during the interval.
The performance will commence at 10.30 am. There is no food nor drink allowed in the theatre.
Please note that there will be no normal session available on both of these dates as this is a whole early level playroom family event.
We hope that you will have a fabulous day out at the theatre.
