Spelling, STEM and all things Titanic! – 25.9.25

This week in P6 we completed our spelling challenge and peer marked this on the teacher’s board. We wrote persuasive letters to a character in our book Mr Stanton to please allow Kaspar the cat onto one of the lifeboats on the Titanic. We read these aloud and we used emotional persuasive language and our arguments were very convincing! We continued our beautiful Titanic art. In our first session we used charcoal and oil pastels, the second session we used paints and mixed blues to our desired shade and our final session we will be using bubble wrap to create some interesting background patterns. We can’t wait to see how these will turn out! We had some STEM tub time and made some interesting creations. We have explored more addition and subtraction with decimals this week while working at active stations and we are getting really confident with this!

Sink or Float! – 19.9.25

This week in P6 we have been exploring science alongside our Titanic topic. We experimented with which object would float or sink and gave a class vote and justified our answers. The following day we had a STEM challenge, how to make plasticine that normally sinks, float! We had a lot of investigation and some super creative shape ideas, but in the end our winner showed us that creating a larger surface area would allow the plasticine to float. We compared this with the Titanic Ship. We have been progressing with our decimal number work using addition and subtraction with decimal numbers. We use our pictorial strategies to visualise what the number looks like using units and tens and this helped us to see why we need to carry or borrow tens! We even played beat the teacher, giving Miss Reid our trickiest calculations and checking her answers, she got us back with some tricky ones too.

12.9.25

Another great week in P6! We have shared our drama tasks where we had to silently act out scenes for our friends to guess. We have enjoyed lots of ERIC time each day. We debated who was the blame for the Titanic disaster and used our great debating skills to defend our assigned character. We identified, ordered and used addition with decimal numbers. In P.E. we used our team work skills to play capture the flag and started our detailed Titanic artwork- it got a bit messy!

Primary 6 – 5.9.25

P6 have had a busy week. We have been exploring our topic ‘The Titanic’ looking at and comparing cabins, restaurants and amenities on board for each class ticket. Monday we had great fun designing some sustainable fashions from recycled materials, we even had a guest come to visit to show their creation! We have been adding up a storm using our place value knowledge. Another great week!

First week back in Primary 6…

Primary 6 have had a fantastic first week back at school!
They have been outstanding when doing their buddy duties with the new P1s. We have explored estimation and rounding when we had to calculate how much a takeaway for the class would cost, we have been using our digital skills to create PowerPoints with moving 3D objects and we have started our new topic all about The Titanic!
A great first week back, well done!
