Spring
Our class assembly is about Spring and it will take place on the 26th of March. Please help your child learn this song for our assembly.
This week marks the start of Fairtrade Fortnight and this Thursday is also World Book Day. All our homework activities for the next fortnight will be linked to these events.
Pick some of these activities to complete;
World Book Day
Explore the website – Take a look at the World book Day website. Look out for ideas and activities you can complete with someone at home.
Costumes – Design a costume for you or a friend to wear on World Book Day. Draw and label your ideas in your homework jotter. ( this does not have to be the costume you wear)
Reading Challenge – Pupils chose a book for enjoyment from the class library. Read some of your book each night at home. Think about the characters, setting and plot. House points will be given to encourage reading.
Junk Model – Using junk materials from around the house, make a character from a story of your choice.
Visit to the library/ book shop – At some point over the next fortnight visit your local library/ book shop to choose books that interest you. Remember you can redeem your £1 voucher for a free book.
Create a Quiz – Make up your own questions about a book of your choice.
Fairtrade
Explore the website – Take a look at the Fairtrade Schools Website. Look out for ideas and activities you can complete with someone at home.
Fairtrade Hunt – When shopping keep an eye out for Fairtrade products. Draw or write what you spot in your homework jotter.
On Friday, we worked on improving our writing skills. We are trying to add more detail to our stories, use a variety of openers and connectives and remember to correctly punctuate our sentences.
Who wants to be a billionaire? Ask children to compose their own addition and subtraction questions for a quiz, giving four possible answers for each question (including the correct answer). Encourage them to create questions that can be solved by counting on or back from the first number and to use a variety of language and symbols.
Collecting dates – ask your child to collect some key dates from their family or friends, e.g. Dad’s birthday is 5th March, we go on holiday on 10th Can they find them on a calendar?

Times tables – Continue to practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Contractions – This week we have begun to look at contractions. Explain to someone at home what a contraction is.
Reading – Read your book every night and remember to bring it in to school the next day. Can you find any contractions in your reading book or a book at home?
Spelling – Practise spelling the days of the week.

Months of the year and Days of the week – revise writing/saying/chanting these in order.
Time poster – Write down all you know about time – where we see it, why we need it, when we use it etc
Ready, set, go! – Set a timer, on your phone, oven, TV see how quickly they can tidy up given area or .jumps, skips they can do in 1, 3 and 5 minutes. Talk about the difference in length of time.

Reading – Read your book every night and remember to bring it in to school the next day. Look for tricky words in your book and practise them at home with an adult. Can you find these tricky words in any of your other books at home?

Cumbernauld – Last week we focused on Scotland, this week we are focusing on our town Cumbernauld. Write 2/3 sentences about what you like about Cumbernauld.
