In Plains Primary pupils are invited to dress up as a book character on World Book Day. Pupils are also encouraged to submit a book review (or indeed book reviews) to be entered into a lucky draw for a prize. The draw will take place on the day. Teachers can supply a template for these reviews.

Helen McKay and the group running the First Minister’s Reading Challenge will be organising a “Reading Obstacle Course” for pupils too.

Scottish Attainment Challenge- BMT at PE

As part of the Scottish Attainment Challenge our school is receiving access to a physical and active health programme called Better Movers and Thinkers (BMT). To look at the impact of BMT you are being asked to complete a short survey. It will take around 10 minutes to complete.

The survey will ask you about any changes you have noticed in your child’s learning behaviours since the beginning of the programme last October.

All information will be treated as confidential. No parents/guardians or children will be mentioned in the research. Data will be held securely and will not be kept for longer than necessary.

The findings will be used in a report for the Scottish Attainment Challenge and summary information will be presented to schools and other establishments in North Lanarkshire.

Taking part in the research project is voluntary and permission can be withdrawn at any time by contacting the school or the research team at Psychological Service on 01236 856 200.

If you are happy to participate in the research the survey can be found by going online to the following web address:

http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/PAH-ParentSurvey/

The survey will be available to complete between 6th February and 20th February (Two weeks).

Thank you in anticipation for your support and cooperation.

Cross Country

cross-country-running

The next cross country event will be at Coatbridge Outdoor Centre on 21st February. To prepare our runners for this, our coaches Gillian McCardie and Graeme Paterson had planned to run an after school club on Friday 3rd, 10th and 17th February 3-4pm. Unfortunately several pupils cannot manage at that time. It has therefore been decided to hold the practices in school time. Pupils should still bring their kit on these days.

Loch Awe- Class talk

Pupils have already been issued with extensive information about their class talk this term. Please find attached.

Pupils have had time in class to prepare and research for this talk and will have one more session next Monday. They are welcome to work on this at home too. Either way, pupils should be ready to deliver their presentation by Monday 6th February. Not all pupils will be heard on this day but their presentation should be ready. As it states in the attached advice note, the presentation should be delivered in ENGLISH.
