Time for Term 4!

Good morning Primary 5/4!

I hope you’ve all managed to have an enjoyable Spring Break where you and your families were able to spend time together and do the things you love! I also hope you ate a lot of chocolate eggs!

Not the way we hoped we would start our last term together I know but we’ve arrived in Term 4!

I will post a selection of activities weekly for you to work on. Some may be revision of work we have done throughout the year to develop and build upon your understanding but there will also be opportunities for new learning too!

Again, please do not strive to complete all of the tasks. Do whatever works best for you!

As I have said previously I would really like to hear from you. So far I have heard from four of you and these messages have really brightened my day! I would love to hear from you all! You can contact me and your classmates through our Class Team, email me through Mail (just type in my full name) or message me on my Twitter (@MissGirvan). You can access Teams and Mail on your GLOW Dashboard.

It would be great to hear from you!

Miss Girvan.

Happy Spring Break…

Hello Primary 5/4,

As it is now the start of our Spring break I want to say a big well done for all your hard work and effort, both in school and at home, this term! I am sure the last two weeks have been very different for you and your families and I am sure, like me, you are missing the daily life of Ladywell! I hope that more of you will be able to get in touch with me either by email, on twitter or through our Microsoft Team – I must admit that I feel a bit lost not speaking to you all every day and would love to hear how you are and what you have been doing – you could even send me some pictures of what you have been up to!

I hope over these next two weeks you are able to have a good rest and spend time with your family doing the things you enjoy! I  also hope that this will involve eating chocolate eggs!

I have set up a few more challenges on Sumdog that you can complete over the break from learning, if you wish to, and below you will find a few more resources too!

The Sumdog Challenges will run from Monday 6th @ 9am til Friday 17th @ 3pm so there is plenty of time to get your names on the leaderboard!

Easter-Bunny-Maths-Mystery – In this problem solving mission your task is to solve five clues, and use the character descriptions of all the people who had a connection with the Women’s Institute, to work out who wrecked the Easter Bunny costume! I will post the answers to this on Friday 17th April!

Easter Egg Competition – You can choose to draw an egg shape onto an A4 piece of paper or, with permission, decorate an actual hard boiled egg! Design this how you wish and be creative! Post your entries onto our Microsoft Team or send them to me by email or on Twitter. The winner will be revealed on Monday 20th April! Good Luck!

Learn a New Skill – Whilst we are all at home it is a great time to learn a new skill or build upon your knowlegde. I am planning to learn a Tik Tok Dance – I may even post this to our Microsoft Team (if it is good enough!). I am challenging you to learn a new skill or develop your knowledge too! It could be a different language, a new hobby, sign language, a piece of history or learning to cook/bake – the options are endless! I would like to hear what skill you are planning to learn!

I will continue to post learning from Monday 20th April – however, please feel free to contact me during our break, I will continue to check my emails and Microsoft Teams during our holiday!

I hope you are all able to have a relaxing and safe break from learning with your family over the next couple of weeks!

Take care,

Miss Girvan. x

Bringing Hogwarts to you…

As all of you will know I am a ma-hoo-sive fan of Harry Potter!

So I was very excited to hear that, during this time, the Wizarding World is bringing Hogwarts to you at home!!

Following on from the link I posted the other day about free audible books, you can listen to the first book ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ here: https://stories.audible.com/pdp/B017V54W6O?ref=adbl_ent_anon_sc_pdp_pc_0

The “Harry Potter at Home Hub” (<Click this link!) is bringing you all the latest magical treats to keep you occupied – including special contributions from Scolastic, nifty magical craft videos, fun articles, quizzes, puzzles and plenty more for first-time readers along with those (like me!) already familiar (some might say obsessed!) with the Wizarding world! They are aiming to cast a banishing charm on boredom! They also say that, just like the Hogwarts staircases, the pages will be changing all the time! So visit often for new content!

I am sure if you are a Harry Potter fan like me or a new reader of the books you are sure to enjoy these magical offerings!

Remember to keep in touch! You know how much I love to chat about Harry Potter but I would love to hear from you about anything you’ve been up to and see any pictures of what you have made/created too!

Keeping in Touch…

So… I have been trying to think of ways we can communicate with each other and ways that I can see what you have been up to during this time.

I miss you all and I am sure you are all missing one another so it would be great for us to keep in touch!

On Glow you I have added an app called Outlook to your dashboard – the app looks like this…

Microsoft Outlook on the App Store

You can access this with your GLOW email address (this is your username for glow followed by @glow.sch.uk) and password. You can contact me on this by searching for my full name, you’ll know it’s me because my image is a daisy (surprise, surprise!). Please send me an email, if you can, to let me know how you are and what you have been doing (you could even send me some pictures of things you have made or created!)  – I would love to hear from you all!

I have also set up a P5/4 group chat on Microsoft Teams again this can be accessed through the app on your dashboard…

Microsoft Teams Review | PCMag

Again you access this with your GLOW details. It might also be easier to download the Microsoft Teams app onto your computer/laptop/tablet/phone as it seems to work better this way, instead of accessing it through your GLOW Dashboard.

If you manage to get onto either of these please get in touch so I know you have managed it!

If you are unable to access these you can comment on any of these blog posts and I will be able to chat with you there!

You can also follow and contact me on my Twitter @MissGirvan (which is private and you can leave me a message – make sure you ask your parents permission first and ensure your name is easy for me to recognise so I can accept you as a follower).

I look forward to hearing from you all soon!

Take care,

Miss Girvan. x

Hello Primary 5/4…

Good afternoon Primary 5/4,

I hope you are all well and spending your time safely at home!

I have started my week by making a rainbow for my kitchen window…

I would LOVE to see photos of your rainbows (will explain in my next post how we can try to keep in touch!)

New Learning Resources

I am sure that most of you will have now finished reading your set class novel. This week why not use the same reading grid as last week but complete the tasks for one of your favourite books. (Reading-homework-grid)

As Spring has now sprung you could have a go at some of these following activities: create a picture of blooming spring flowers (with permission – you could use resources from your garden!), create a picture of a symmetrical butterfly, make your own acrostic poem using a springtime word of your choice, during a walk or within your garden spot the signs that spring has sprung and write a report on how our landscapes change in Spring and use technology to record these signs – you could even create your own trailer for a spring movie using iMovie or similar software! Again I would love to see anything you create and will tell you in my next post how you can share these with me!

This week I have set up three separate competitions on Sumdog – one each for maths, reading and spelling.

The competitions will go live today at 1:30pm and run until Friday at 3pm – on Wednesday I will post the half way results before announcing the final results on Friday along with the winners for each of the three competitions!

I have also set up a few challenges for you to work on improving set skills within the three areas!

MATHS

Squares – Multiplication Challenge on your concrete and developing knowledge of the times tables you have learned.

Triangles & Circles – Multiplication Challenge on your concrete and developing knowledge of the times tables you have learned.

READING

Whole Class Challenge – Capital Letters and Sentence Punctuation

SPELLING

Yellow Group – Compound Words

Purple Group – Common Words

Blue Group – Phoneme Words

I will also announce a winner for each of the above challenges!

Sumdog (@sumdog) | Twitter___________________________________________________________________________________________

As I am sure most of you are already aware there are lots of daily learning opportunities in a wide variety of subjects happening on many social media and online platforms. A fellow teacher has listed some of these for you and I hope you will give most of them a go!

Hello…

Hi Primary 5/4,

I have now posted a selection of activities, links and resources from a variety of curricular areas for you to access.

You should, by no means, strive or worry to complete all of these tasks.

Over the coming weeks I will post other links and resources linked to areas we were planning to work on in Term 4 so look out for these.

Try not to spend all your time at home on learning – check out the indoor activities list I have posted too – there are over 100 crafts, games and tasks to choose from. You and your family may decide to have a movie day, do some baking, you may be asked to help with chores or do something kind for a neighbour. You could take your learning outside – read a book, enjoy the fresh air and… don’t forget to play!

Take care.

Miss Girvan.
