Health – Peer Pressure

Today as part of our Health Topic, we learned strategies that we could use to deal with peer pressure.

We acted out different scenarios and discussed what we should do when we felt peer pressure.

Some of the scenarios we acted out included:

There is no space on the bus to put your large school bag. Your friend tells you to put it in the aisle.

What would you say? What would you do?

It’s raining after school and you and your friend don’t have coats or umbrellas. You see your mum’s car parked down the street. You offer your friend a ride home. There are lots of children waiting for the lollipop man to tell them it is safe to cross. You are both getting wet. Your friend says, “This is taking too long. Let’s run along the footpath and cross right near your mum’s car.”

What would you say? What would you do?

When we had acted out all the scenarios we  spoke about the strategies that we had employed that worked effectively. These included –

Being firm and saying no.

Repeating your initial comment.

Ignoring the person.

Telling an adult.
