W/e 28th February 2020

You may have seen on twitter we have been focusing on Fairtrade this week.  The boys and girls have learned about Fairtrade and our P3 class ran a raffle and raised £103.40 for the Fairtrade Foundation.  Thank you to Mr Rankin, who led Fairtrade week and arranged the raffle too.

On Monday our morning nursery children started getting lunch in our dinner hall.  This is part of the preparation for the 1140 Expansion.  So far they have tried many different new foods and have sat together like a proper nursery family.  Next, they will be learning how to put their dishes away and tidy up.  Such responsible citizens!

Wednesday marked the start of Lent.  The children went to the Ash Wednesday Mass and have been learning about Lent in their classes.  As part of our preparation for Easter, there will be many events happening over the next few weeks.  Check the newsletter and twitter for these.

On Thursday night our Glee children, along with Mrs Cahill, Miss Newall, Mrs Anderson and Miss Lewis, attended the annual Glee Competition for our region.  The children performed beautifully and were the youngest choir there.  They sang two songs, Light Up and Rule the World, and shone like stars, literally – the children had new glittery        t-shirts with a sparkly star on the back.  Over the last 6 weeks, Mrs Cahill and Miss Newall have worked hard with the children, teaching them songs and dances.  They have both given up their lunchtime for many weeks to design and make the t-shirts.  We cannot thank them enough for their time and dedication to Glee.  Thank you, Ladies!

We have had a busy week in OLSF this week and a busy week to come.  Read all about next week’s events in our ‘What’s Happening in OLSF?’ post.  I hope everyone had a restful weekend.  A final good luck to our dancers who are performing in the Civic Centre on Sunday night.

Some of our Primary 3s and 4s enrolled this week for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.  All children participated well and were respectful whilst making their promises.  We are immensely proud of them and wish to thank all parents and carers for bringing them and also for making your own promises. Over the coming weeks and months, we will prepare the children to be ready for their Sacraments and continue to guide them on their faith journey.

Mr Dorris from Taylor High School came to visit P7 and delivered a numeracy lesson.  This is part of the Continuity Programme, which concludes this week.

P6 also had a chance to visit the high school this week.  They participated in a Health and Wellbeing event, along with all the cluster primary schools.  This is the first of many opportunities over the next year and a half for P6 to become more familiar and engaged with Taylor High School.

Have a look at the table below for all events happening next week.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

w/e 31st January 2020

We had visitors this week from our partner schools in South Lanarkshire.  P2 and P6 both had teachers from Blackwood and Crosshouse Primary.  We will continue to moderate with our friends in South Lanarkshire to help improve our school.

Primary 7 are almost at the end of their transition programme.  They continue to visit Taylor High School every Thursday.

Next week we welcome 3 student teachers in to P2, P3 and P6/7.

Look out for snapshot jotters in your child’s bag on Monday.  These jotters will give you an idea of what your child is learning in class and will show their progression.

We will have our first parents’ evening of this year on Wednesday.  If you have not booked an appointment, please login to our online system soon and select a suitable time.  We look forward to seeing you.

P7 will visit Taylor High School for their last session of the Continuity Programme on Thursday.

We will go to the church on Friday for First Friday Mass, which will be celebrated by Fr Grant.  We are struggling for volunteers for the Coffee Morning, so at the moment we cannot go ahead with it, however we will confirm this during the week.

I hope you have enjoyed your weekend and I will see everyone tomorrow.

Primary 7 had a fantastic week in Kilbowie.  Their behaviour was exemplary and they certainly pushed themselves to the limit (and that includes the teachers)!  Well done everyone and a special thank you to the staff, as without them, trips like this wouldn’t be possible.  Thank you Mr Maxwell, Miss Hughes, Mr Daly, Mr Rankin and Miss Newall.

We picked our winners for the STEM Challenge from Financial Education week, however, we were so impressed by the entries that every participant got free snacks and juice and the whole school got an extra playtime.  Once again, I would like to thank everyone who took part and to the friends and family who helped them.

Our nursery children had their fluoride varnishing this week.  They are also doing very well with their Wellbeing  Walks – our nursery children are very healthy.  Keep it up, boys and girls!

Looking to next week, our P7s will continue the Continuity Programme with Taylor High School.  They started the programme in November and have participated wonderfully.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend, in particular our P7s, who will be exhausted.  I look forward to hearing all the stories on Monday.
