On Tuesday we had a visit from Party Animals. They brought a variety of animals for the children to touch and learn about. If you don’t like spiders, look away now…

We have had a very competitive week in OLSF! On Tuesday, Mrs Taggart led a team of P6 pupils to win North Lanarkshire’s Euroquiz – a massive congratulations to all involved, your hard work paid off!
On Friday, a group of P7 pupils participated in Taylor High’s Public Speaking competition. St. Patrick’s Primary were this year winners and we would like to extend our congratulations to them. Our pupils did us proud and are winners in our eyes!
The nursery/Primary 1 transition programme began this week; pre-school children from our nursery visited Primary 1 last week and participated in activities alongside Primary 1 pupils. They all had a great time and some didn’t want to leave to go back to Nursery!
Looking to our week ahead, it is the second of our Parents’ Evenings on Wednesday; slips will be issued with times on Monday. There is an athletics event on Thursday and Mr Dorris (PT of maths at Taylor High School) will be working with our Primary 7 pupils on Friday. There is also a football festival on Friday, so it looks set to be another busy week!
Friday is the last school and nursery day before our February weekend starts – school and nursery are closed on Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th; Wednesday 15th is an-service day so no pupils should attend on this day also.
School and nursery will reopen to pupils as normal on Thursday 16th February.

As our maths outcome relates to pattern, we looked at patterned socks and matched them. The children also created their own patterns using the poppers. The children played a maths game, counting the bunnies tails to match the numbers on the dice. This activity helps with counting and one to one matching.

While exploring events and characters in stories, the drew drew their favourite characters from Dot McStuffin. They also used the play-dough to make characters and made their own story book.

On Thursday of last week our P6 pupils went to Taylor High School, along with other Primary 6 pupils in the cluster for a Health and Well-Being Event. All pupils participated enthusiastically and represented our school well.
On Friday, last term’s winning house visited Motherwell Heritage Centre for a ‘Sweetie’ Exhibition and had a great time. All children are trying very hard to earn themselves and their team house points.
On Tuesday of this week, a small group of P6 pupils will be participating in the annual Euroquiz, competing against other pupils from North Lanarkshire Schools. We wish them the best of luck!
On Thursday, our Nursery/Primary 1 transition block will start. Pre-school children will visit Primary 1 in the morning or afternoon for a short activity and story. This has proved very successful and I am sure the children will benefit greatly from it.
On Friday, it is our first Friday Mass and coffee morning. As always, we welcome any raffle prizes and shop-bought baking or biscuits. Some of our P7 pupils will be participating in a public speaking competition at Taylor High School on Friday afternoon, we wish them the best of luck also!

We have been so busy this week. We have made lots of patterns in the sand and we painted some lovely pictures. Our Scottish day was great and we even enjoyed tasting the haggis, neeps and tatties.
