Week Ending 3rd March 2017

Last week marked the beginning of Health Fortnight.  The children have been practising with Rookie Rockstars in preparation for this week’s performances.  The children will also take part in Zumba lessons this week.

We had a very successful book week, ending with ‘Dress as your favourite book character’.  We had lots of inventive and creative costumes and carried out many activities based on our favourite books, including a visit from a librarian for P1 and P2.  There are lots of pictures on twitter and photographs of our decorated classroom doors will follow.  Thank you to Mrs Crooks for organising this.

Congratulations to our 4 P7’s who participated in the Primary Reading Quiz.  Mrs Crooks took the children to Wishaw Library, where they answered questions about the favourite books.  The children were fantastic and are hoping to secure a place in the Reading Quiz Final.  Well done – we are so proud of you!

Congratulations to the boys and girls in P3, P4, P6 and P7, who were enrolled last week for the sacraments.  The children sang beautifully and represented our school well.  Thank you to all friends, family and staff who came to support them.

It was lovely to see so many people at the Ash Wednesday service.  Mass will be celebrated during Lent on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:25am.  We hope to see many of you there.

This week, including our Rookie Rockstars performance and Zumba classes, the nursery have three ‘Come and Play’ days and Friday will be Crazy Hair Day!

Week Ending 24th February

S6 sports coaches were in this week to work with the children.  P4/5 enjoyed playing basketball and this programme will continue next week.

Our successful nursery/primary 1 transition finished this week.  The nursery children have enjoyed their trips to our Primary 1 classes and have been learning lots about our school.

Primary One loved visiting Ravenscraig Sports Facility for the play festival.  They tried out lots of different sports and had a great time.

Friday night’s movie night, as organised by the Parent Council, was a great success.  The children enjoyed the movie and loved the many treats available.  Thank you to everyone who volunteered and organised the night.

Next week we have our Enrolment Mass on Monday at 7pm.  It is also the beginning of health fortnight, where we will be welcoming Rookie Rockstars into the school.  Mass on Ash Wednesday will be at 10 o’clock.  We are celebrating book week next week with the Primary Reading Quiz and lots of activities based around children’s favourite stories.  Remember Friday is ‘Dress as your favourite book character’.

Week Ending 17th February 2017

Our Nursery/Primary 1 transition programme continued last week.  Nursery children learned all about our dining hall and enjoyed their visit to Primary One. Primary 6 and Primary 7 children enjoyed their football coaching sessions on Friday and these are continuing.

Looking to our week ahead, there are still a few tickets left for our Parent Council run Movie Night on Friday night; these can be purchased at the school office. The movie this time is Trolls, as voted for by our pupils and parents, and it looks set to be another great night.

S6 coaches from Taylor High will be in our school on Thursday and will be working with several classes.  Catholic Education Week cluster Mass is on Thursday evening at 7pm in St. Teresa’s Church.  Although this event is predominantly for P7 pupils, all pupils and parents are welcome to attend this Mass.

Our Primary 1 pupils are participating in a Play Festival on Friday (letters were issued on Friday regarding this), and Friday is also the Trolls Movie Night in St. Francis Xavier Church Hall.

A Very Busy Short Week

This week children have been listening to stories on our new computer.  This encourages their ability to listen and recall information.

Through musical instruments, we are learning to keep a beat.

We have also been using our imagination to create models and pictures, in both the art and construction areas.

While using the magnetic fish set in the water, we are developing our fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination.

We investigated the use of the magnetic letters on the easel, making our own words and beginning to form our names.

Animal Patterns

We continue to learn about patterns in different ways.  We looked at different animal patterns and reproduced some of them with paint.  We continued patterns with the shapes and made our own.
