Alongside National Qualifications, the Social Subjects Faculty offers a range of National Progression Awards (NPAs) that provide learners with opportunities to develop specialist knowledge and skills in areas of personal interest. These courses form part of our wider curriculum offer and allow learners to explore subjects and career pathways that extend beyond traditional qualification routes.
NPAs are assessed through the ongoing collection of evidence across the duration of the course, allowing learners to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, and skills through a portfolio of work. This approach recognises achievement across a range of activities and provides opportunities for learners to apply their learning in practical, investigative, and real-world contexts. Current National Progression Awards offered by the faculty include Criminology (Levels 5 and 6), Scottish Studies (Levels 5 and 6), and Travel and Tourism (Level 5). These courses complement our wider Social Subjects curriculum and support progression into further learning, training, employment, and a range of future pathways.
