Old Monkland Primary School & Nursery Class

The boys and girls in Primary 7 enjoying an energetic start to the day.

The primary 7’s have been working hard researching their new World War 2 topic. We used the iPads to find out some basic facts and presented the information to the rest of the class.

A new assembly initiative introduced by Miss Mcfadden this session is ‘Book Buddies’. At assembly on a Tuesday our older pupils will be paired up with younger pupils and they will explore texts together. Pupils may be set challenges about the text or have ‘ think about’ points to discuss together. This will work towards ensuring all learners can discuss their thoughts, ideas and opinions related to a variety of texts and will allow pupils to explore many genres with fellow peers.

Our first ‘Book Buddies’ session was on Tuesday and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Have a look at our new initiative in action.

We will soon issue our September newsletter but can we remind Parents / Guardians to be careful when parking at drop off / collection times and follow road markings / parking guidelines as directed to ensure safety for all.

This session there will be a change to our in school milk system. In line with the Government objective to reduce sugar consumption and improve oral health, North Lanarkshire Council are proposing to only offer plain milk to Primary pupils.

From Monday 4th September, plain milk will be available everyday but chocolate and strawberry milk will only be available on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday (during the day and at lunchtime – this will also affect back a snack orders).

From Monday 23rd October 2017 only plain milk will be available to primary pupils. A letter with further details was issued to pupils at the beginning of this week.

We are delighted that our School and Nursery have had a fantastic start to the 2017/2018 school year. Our boys and girls have now settled in and are already proving themselves to be fantastic Old Monklanders.

A big Well Done to our new Nursery and new P1 pupils who have had a super start at Old Monkland.

We hope all of our pupils and families have a fantastic summer and a well earned rest.

School reopens for pupils on Thursday 17th August 2017.

The boys and girls in Primary 6 and Primary 7 all had a ball at our 2017 Leavers Dance. They all looked fantastic in their outfits and danced the night away at the ‘Old Monkland Oscars.
