Old Monkland Primary School & Nursery Class

The Primary 7’s have been working on their mental addition and subtraction. They have been using playing cards to race to and from 100.

The primary 7 boys and girls had the opportunity to apply to be Happy House Captains. The staff in the school all had a vote for captains within each house. It was a very tough decision for staff to decide between some excellent applications. A huge well done to all of our successful applicants.

Well done to this weeks ‘Stars of the Week’. The first Happy house count took place this week and the winners were Fleming House.

Primary 5/6 looked at Constellations of Stars because Pupils in Hogwarts “had to study the night skies through their telescopes every Wednesday at midnight and learn the names of different stars and the movements of the planets “. We created pictures of Zodiac Constellations by mapping the stars with chalk and highlighting the stars with tin foil.

A huge well done to this weeks ‘Stars of the Week’. The boys and girls were presented with their trophies,stickers and Star Counters at Thursday’s assembly. Keep up the good work!

We held our Parent Council A.G.M on Wednesday 26/9/17. Thank you to those who expressed an interest in joining our Parent Council.

We will keep you updated on Parent Council events that will take place throughout the year.

It was great to see all the children return from their summer break and welcome all the new starts. Everyone has now settled in and are busy learning about shapes, routines and personal hygiene. They have very much enjoyed learning about and using the Shinarri indicators especially meeting and playing with Shanarri and Sid puppets.

Primary 3 celebrated ‘National Talk like a Pirate Day’ . They made pirate hats, pirate pictures, sang pirate songs and spoke like a pirate. We had so much fun pretending to be pirates and learning different pirate phrases.

The Parent Council Annual General Meeting will be held in the school on Tuesday 26th September at 6pm. All of our parents are welcome to come along and be part of our Parent Council.

A reminder to our parents and families that the school is closed Friday 22nd and Monday 25th for September Weekend. We hope all of our pupils and families have a lovely weekend.
