Article of the Week – 4th May

Hi Boys and Girls,

I hope you enjoyed participating in some of the activities relating to Articles and the London Marathon. Every week, UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools are posting ‘Articles of the Week’ for us to explore and look at. This will be great for us to have a look at and will help us get a better understanding of what a Rights Respecting School is. This week the focus is Article 7 – Birth registration, name, nationality and care. I have attached a PowerPoint that you and a member of your household can explore. There are a variety of activities linked to this Article for all stages of the school.

Article of the Week – Article 7

It would be great to hear from you and see any activities you do!

Primary 2/3

Hi everyone,

It’s been lovely to hear from lots of you recently. Remember you can post comments on any of our posts to ask questions or let me know how you’re getting on and keep in touch. I always love to hear from you! In case you missed it, Mr Henderson posted a special message for all of our families last week. You can find this on the website a few posts back if you missed it.

Well done to everyone taking part in Sum Dog challenges. I’ve been looking everyday to see who has been able to take part and I am seeing great results! 🙂
Well done to Imogen who has answered 444 questions correctly in our Maths challenge! Lots of you have completed these really, really well, I am very impressed. Gold star for all of you! I will be making new Sum Dog challenges for you today for both Spelling and Maths. Good luck with them, I’m sure I’ll see plenty more fantastic answers.

If you didn’t see it earlier this morning, I’ve posted some fun Star Wars activities you might want to try, I know we had a lot of fans in our class. Let me know if you try any out. Just scroll down a little to see the earlier post and linked activities.

Have a great week everyone!

Primary 3/4 – 4.5.20

Good Morning boys and girls!

I hope you had a nice weekend with your families. I would love to hear what you got up to! I enjoyed going a long walk and watching some of my favourite films!

Sumdog

Well done to the boys and girls who completed the challenge last week on our times tables! This week I have set you a competition all about Shape and Measure! I will be checking in every day to see how you get on with that!

Spelling

I have attached this weeks spelling words for you. Remember these are revision of what we have covered in class! I have been busy looking at some fun spelling games and activities that you could try at home. They are a bit different from what we normally do in class so take some time to look at them. There is a file for spelling activities and another file for spelling games. You can also do any activities we normally do in class or for homework but I thought trying something different with your spelling words might be quite fun. Please let me know how you get on if you do try some of these!

MoneySense Mondays

Last week I posted about a new series of lessons that the Royal Bank of Scotland were doing called MoneySense Mondays. They are available on Youtube or on their Facebook page if your parents have an account they can search them up. I think there was a problem with getting the video onto Youtube last week but hopefully they can get it working this week. This weeks lesson is all about saving money. They are really interesting lessons with fun quizzes at the end!

Have a good day and stay in touch! Missing you all.

It’s Star Wars Day! May the 4th be with you

Hi everyone.

It’s one of my favourite days today, Star Wars day!

I’ve created a grid of activities I thought you might like to try. If you’re not in my class you’re more than welcome to take part too. Some of the activities are a little challenging for younger ones to do without an adult, older pupils, they might be ideal for you.

Please let me know if you do anything to celebrate Star Wars day. I’d love to hear about your galactic activities!

As the weather is to be nice this week, I have attached some active challenge cards for you to do outside. Maybe your family could complete some of the fun challenges too!

P7 4.5.20

Good morning P7!

Hope you are all OK today and enjoyed your weekends. This weekend I enjoyed catching up with friends over Zoom and also watched Tarzan on Disney+! What about you?

Sumdog

This week I have set a multiplication challenge in Sumdog. It was great to see some more of you making use of Sundog last week.

I have also set a spelling challenge for you which you can do to support your spelling revision. We haven’t really used Sumdog for spelling this year, but I have provided it as an option for you. I would love to hear how you get on!

Spelling

Here is this week’s usual spelling grid and revision words. There are different challenges for you this week: Spelling lists 4:5:20 May

1960s – album covers

We just have a couple of 1960s tasks left! I have made some tasks for you to try out this week based on 1960s album covers. I was asking my dad about how he used to listen to music, and when he was wee he used a record player! He doesn’t have a clue how to stream music and I have been trying to teach him about it, but he seems to like using CDs best. I thought you could look into different ways we can listen to music and design your own album cover.

These tasks are here: Album Covers Home Learning Task

Thinking of you all! Would love to hear from you all any time in the comments.

Take care,

Miss Miller 🙂

May the Fourth be with you!

Good Morning Primary 5/6,

May the Fourth be with you! I hope you all had a lovely weekend with your families. Did you get up to anything nice? I have been trying to improve my cooking and baking skills. I made mince ‘n’ tatties, cauliflower soup and a vanilla cheesecake. What should I try next? Have you got any ideas? Maybe you would like to share what you have baked or made in the comments below.

Last week, I posted about the Royal Bank of Scotland doing MoneySense Mondays. You can join them live on Facebook and YouTube for another fun and interactive lesson. This weeks lesson is from 12 o’clock to half past 12 and is focussing on ways to pay for things.

I have created a Spelling , Grammar and Maths task on Sumdog for you this week. This weeks spelling is continued revision of words you have covered in class. You may want to show a variety of spelling tasks off to an adult in your household. We do a variety of fun spelling such as Rainbow, Curly, Capital Letters, Backwards, Pyramid, Upside-Down, Upper and Lower or even Spelling Hangman. You can also create Spelling Sentences or Silly Sentences with your words. An adult may even want to challenge you by giving you a Dictated Sentence! You can access your spelling words on Sumdog but if any of you have difficulty doing this, please let me know!

Our Grammar is focussing on pronouns and adverbs. I have added links below to give you a recap of what pronouns and adverbs are before you practise in games.

Pronouns take the place of nouns in a sentence. For example- ‘him’, ‘her’, ‘them’, ‘he’, she’ or ‘they’

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/z37xrwx

An adverb tells you how something happens, like quickly and slowly.

You can also continue tasks from any of your home learning grids. Have you had a favourite task so far? On Friday, it is the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Click on the link below to watch a short clip on what VE Day and VJ Day were, and the events that led to the war.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/history-ks2-ve-day/z7xtmfr

I know a lot of you enjoy cracking codes! I have attached a Morse Code activity that you may want to give a try. However, the answers are on the third page so please try your best to not look at them until you have completed the task. Remember you can split the screen for you to have the task on one and the Morse Code Translator on the other.

Stay safe and have a great week,

Primary 4/5 – 4.5.20

Hi Boys and Girls,

I hope you are all well and staying safe. It was lovely to hear from some of you that enjoyed the video!

I am really impressed at the boys and girls taking part in the Sumdog Challenges! I have opened the house as a reward for all your hard work. There is a new challenge set for you.

This week you will be working on week 3 spelling words which are revision for all groups. You can pick any spelling activity of your choice and remember to complete some super sentences.

Before we finished up, we were learning all about the different types of Native American homes. I have found a Native American Teepee craft that I thought would be fun for you to try. All you need is some sticks, cardboard, string and glue.

I have attached the instructions for you.  If you have a go I would love to see them!

How to make a teepee

Remember to get in touch if you need any help or have any questions about the learning grids.

Take care,

Miss Davidson

Primary 3/4 – 1.5.20

Hello boys and girls

I hope you have had a good week and managed to do lots of different fun activities with your families! Well done to all of you who completed our times table Sumdog challenge – I was really impressed with all of the scores, you filled my bucket right up! A special well done to Skye, Enya and Robyn who all came joint 1st on the leaderboard! I have opened the house on Sumdog for you all. I will be posting a new challenge plus new spelling words on Monday.

Today is Friday and normally we would have some Golden time. I know a lot of us enjoy playing with the Lego and since it is the start of a new month (I cannot believe it is May already!) I found a 30 day Lego challenge that some of you might want to try if you have some in your house. Here is the picture below:

Remember to have some well deserved Golden Time today even if you do not have Lego! Home Learning is a big change and it is so important to look after our amazing brains!  Have a nice weekend!
