Primary 3/4 – Sumdog Competition

Hi boys and girls

Miss Marchant has been very silly this morning! I was looking at the Sumdog competition from last week and was looking in the wrong column to see your scores! It is actually Robyn in first place and Enya in second place from last week. I do apologise boys and girls!

A huge well done to all the boys and girls who took part and who take part in all of our challenges and competitions. I can see how hard you are all trying every week so please keep up the excellent work! I am very proud of you!

Take care – and sorry again! You know I am sometimes a bit silly! I am missing you all keeping me right in class!

Microsoft Teams

A Reminder about Microsoft Teams –  If you have managed to access your class Teams page, please leave a message for your teacher and this will allow us to know you have managed to access the page. Please find below a user guide to allow you to access Microsoft Teams and visit your class page.

As a staff, we are constantly striving to find the best ways to communicate with and provide online learning for our pupils during this time. Going forward, we feel using Microsoft Teams as well as the school Blog is the most effective way to do this.

The first thing children would be required to do is log into GLOW and add the ‘Microsoft Teams’ tile to the Launchpad. I have attached a step by step guide below on how to do this. Our aim is to give you time to access and familiarise yourself with the use of teams prior to teaching staff using teams to provide learning for the children. Staff are intending to begin to use Teams from Monday 18th May.

In Microsoft Teams, I have created a team for each class. This will give pupils a safe place to communicate with each other as well as their teacher. The children will also be able to post pictures, complete activities set by their teacher and upload finished work. Staff will also create quizzes and assignments on Teams for the children to complete.

If you have any questions about accessing Microsoft Teams then please email me and I will be happy to help.

Primary 3/4 – 11.5.20

Good Morning Primary 3/4

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and did something nice. I went for some long walks to get some fresh air each day. I would love to hear what you got up to?

Remember today is a day off for you but us teachers are still working from home!

Sumdog

Well done to the boys and girls who completed our Measure and Shape Challenge from last week – some of you answered HUNDREDS of questions over the week! Very impressive. Our winner from last week was Robyn and second place was Chelsea. Well done girls 🙂 I have set a new competition this week for you all about Fractions. I have also set a Spelling challenge this week. I know we have not really used Spelling on Sumdog before but it would be good to see how you get on with it. Remember I will be checking in everyday to see how you are getting on!

Spelling

You have new spelling words this week. I have attached them below for you. Remember to try some of the new spelling activities I gave you last week when practising your words. They are a bit different from what we normally do and so hopefully you will have fun doing them!

Weekly Spelling words 11.5.20

Microsoft Teams

Next week on Monday 18th May we will be moving over to Microsoft Teams to help you continue with your Home Learning. Mr Henderson has posted information on how to access this through Glow. I will be spending this week getting our Primary 3/4 Teams page set up. You could try to log on to Teams this week to get familiar with how it works. If you have any problems logging into Teams or Glow please leave a comment below or send Miss McFadden or Mr Henderson an email and someone will be able to help you.

Have a lovely day – I hope the sun keeps on shining!

P7 Week beginning 11th May

Good morning P7!

I hope you have had a lovely long weekend with your families. Today is still a day off school for you all, but I have set some tasks for you to carry out this week and would love to hear how you are all getting on.

Sumdog

I have set new maths and spelling challenges for you this week on Sumdog. I’d love to get some feedback about what you thought about the spelling challenges as I know we haven’t done them in class before.

Spelling

Here is this week’s spelling revision and tasks for you: Spelling lists 11:5:20 May PDF

Many of these words will also be found on Sumdog if you have a look there too!

The 1960s

This will be our last 1960s task before moving on to looking at transition tasks. I know many of you will be looking forward to thinking about that! I have seen the fantastic things Mr Henderson has been posting about the high school already.

Our final 1960s task is all about the Berlin Wall. These tasks can be found here: The Berlin Wall home learning PDF

One of the tasks is a graffiti art task and I gave it a go!  Here is my attempt, and it would be great to see yours!

Take care P7 and keep in touch.

Primary 4/5 11.5.20

Good Morning Primary 4/5,

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. I made sure I went out a long walk each day and then played lots of games of monopoly. What did you get up to?

Remember today is an inset day, so make sure you are having lots of fun and having a day off. It looks like it will be a sunny day!

Our class Sumdog challenges will start tomorrow. This week, you have both spelling and maths challenges.

I have uploaded one week of spelling words for you to complete spelling tasks for this week.

As of Monday the 18th we will be moving to Microsoft Teams. Mr Henderson has posted lots of useful information on how to get set up. It would be great if you could spend some time this week familiarising yourself with how to use it. If you have any questions, please let me or Mr Henderson know.

P5/6 Home Learning – 11th May

Hello everyone,

How was your long weekend? Remember you are off today so enjoy this lovely sunshine! I hope you are keeping busy at home and try lots of activities. I am really missing you all. On Saturday, I made cheesecake and played outside with Archie. I decided to buy him a slide with his birthday money and instead of sliding down it, he just wanted to climb up it! I will put a picture of the cheesecake below and you can let me know what you think. The little ones were for my Mum, Gran and Grandpa so I could drop them off at their door. On Sunday, we went a big long walk and Archie fell asleep just before I got back to the house. But guess what came and woke him up? The ice cream van!

I have included a lot of tasks this week that can be attempted at any point. On Sumdog, you have spelling, grammar and a maths task set. Remember I can see who is attempting these challenges and tasks. Please try to be on Sumdog for over five minutes as this will help you consolidate your learning. I would also like you to try the following for spelling:

Tuesday- Capital Letter Spelling
Wednesday- Spelling Sentences
Thursday- Dictated Sentences
Friday- Choice of spelling task and Spelling test

The Royal Bank of Scotland MoneySense Mondays are focussing on ‘Keeping money safe (fraud and scams). You can get this lesson on facebook and youtube.

This week is National Digital Learning Week. Before the school closed we were looking at coding and using Scratch. You can also access this at home! If you cant remember your log in details, don’t worry! When we start using Microsoft Teams you will be able to message me and I can send these to you. I have attached a powerpoint to revise what coding is and a cryptic coding sheet too. If you can print this off you can make your own one on square paper for someone to solve.

What is Coding

Cryptic Coding Worksheet

On the 12th of May it is also Florence Nightingale’s Birthday. She was born in Florence, Italy in 1820 and was named after her city of birth. Florence Nightingale was a nurse and helped many soldiers who were hurt in the war. I have attached reading tasks for your groups. You have done reading activities like this on Australia. The answer are attached to the back.

Have a great week and enjoy the sunshine when you can! You can comment below and let me know how you get on.

May Weekend

Good morning Boys and Girls,

I hope you have had a great week and enjoyed the lovely weather. I want to say a big well done to the boys and girls who have been working really hard on Sumdog this week. Keep up the super work! Remember I have set challenges for Maths, Spelling and Grammar now. I will open the house today for you!

I’d love to hear from you and what you have been doing. I really enjoyed hearing from Kacie and Aimiee this week! Kacie has been baking and helping prepare meals. Aimiee also made a homemade cheese pizza and might be making scones this weekend. I am going to try and make a banana loaf today. I will let you know how it is on Monday. I also got a nice surprise when I met Peyton helping her Mum in Asda. She was telling me about playing with some of you on Xbox and enjoying the nice weather.

Today and Monday are holidays for you! Remember to have lots of fun and try to spend some time outside. I have attached some fun at home ideas below.

Fun at Home ideas

Today is the 75th anniversary of VE Day, here are some Beamish 1940s Farm recipes that you may want to try.

Have lots of fun and try to spend some time outside. I am missing you all. Have a lovely long weekend!
