Newarthill Primary School take great pride in being a very musical school with many keen musicians. A few children from primary 5, 6 and 7 work with Mr Kane, our visiting music specialist, on a weekly basis.  Primary five also have fortnightly tuition from our Kodaly specialist.

At Newarthill Primary pupils understand that playing a musical instrument requires mastery of many interrelated skills. All of these skills need to be developed simultaneously and consistently over time if a high standard of performance is to be achieved. Therefore, it is essential that pupils be given the opportunity to gain understanding and appreciation of the rhythmic, melodic, harmonic, historical and stylistic components of music being studied from as early an age as possible.
