So last Wednesday you’ll remember you were introduced to Isambard Kingdom Brunel, a highly regarded engineer from the Victorian era. We’ll continue with the theme of engineering today.
- https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/ks2-isambard-kingdom-brunel-engineering-genius/zb9vhbk The first activity is to watch the short video above.
- Victorian Engineers, Scientists and Inventors PowerPoint The second element is to read the information on Sarah Guppy, another noted engineer from Victorian England, you’ll find this information from slide 13 onwards. It’s important that you click ‘view slideshow’ rather than try to read just particular slides as it’ll not appear as it should otherwise.
- STEM Spaghetti Bridge Finally, the third part today is to give the engineering challenge a go. Now, I’m perfectly happy for you to substitute spaghetti for lego or some other construction toy. I will say, the challenge is to build a bridge strong enough to hold a bag of sugar. If you can, upload photos or videos of your structures, I’d love to see them. Have fun!
