S1 author visit

On Wednesday 7th September, S1 enjoyed a fantastic visit with the author Brian Conaghan. Brian enthralled S1 pupils with a talk about his schooldays, his journey to becoming a writer and his books (the rejected and the published ones).

Well done, S1 on being such a great audience and asking such thoughtful questions! And thank you to the Scottish Book Trust for part-funding this visit.

If you’re keen to read one of Brian’s books, please reserve online or request in person. His books are always in demand and so don’t leave it too long!

Welcome back!

I hope you had a lovely summer and a good start to the new session.

If you have any library books from last session, could you please return them as soon as possible? It doesn’t matter how late the books are – we just need them back! Hand them in to Ms Boyd or drop them in the blue box at the library door.

Please help!

Please bring back your library books before the end of term. Ms Boyd will be delighted if you return your books, no matter how late they are – no comments, no fines and no fuss guaranteed! Any books can be placed in the blue returns box in the library or left with your English teacher to pass on.

Check in your bag, under your bed, in your cupboards, under the shoogly table and return your books!

Pride Month

Happy Pride Month!

There is a new library display for Pride 2022 with fantastic LGBT+ fiction. If nothing on display appeals to you, use the online catalogue and search for LGBT+; this will list all the LGBT+ books that the library has and allow you to check what is available.

As always, please ask Ms Boyd for help or to reserve any books.

Mental Health Awareness Week

It is important to look after your mental health during Mental Health Awareness Week – and every other week of the year! Take a look at the display of resources in the library and use some of the links on this site (under Wellbeing at the top right of the page). These links have also been collected in a handy Wakelet.

Free audiobooks for teens

SYNC is a FREE summer audiobook program for teens aged 13+. You have to sign up with email.

How does it work?

First register for SYNC at audiofilemagazine.com/sync. Then set up Sora.

How do I set up Sora?

  1. Download Sora from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. In Sora, tap I have a setup code (at the bottom of the screen).
  3. Enter this setup code: audiobooksync and tap Get Started!
  4. Enter the email address you used to sign up for SYNC.
  5. Tap Explore (at the bottom of the screen) to see the week’s featured titles.

When does each SYNC week start?

New titles will be available each Friday from 4am. You can access the titles for 7 days, until the next Friday at 3.59am.

How long is each audiobook available in Sora?

To keep each audiobook, you must tap Borrow. Each audiobook is available to borrow for one week. Once you’ve borrowed an audiobook, it stays on your Shelf in Sora FOREVER!!

I don’t see one of the titles for the week. What should I do?

In Sora, be sure that your search preferences (at the top of the Explore screen) have “Available books” set to Everything and “Format” set to Audiobooks.

Can I delete the titles from my device?

Yes, you can delete the downloaded audiobook files in Sora if you need to free up space on your device. If you delete the files, the title will stay on your Shelf, and you’ll be able to download and access it again.

To delete a downloaded audiobook’s files, tap the checkmark next to the title on your Shelf, select Stream (when online), then select Yes, delete download.

Keep the heid and read!

It has been proven that 6 minutes of reading boosts your mental health by 68%. To celebrate reading, libraries and mental health, you are being asked to pledge to read for 6 minutes during Mental Health Awareness Week. You can earn 150 Young Scot Reward points if you make the pledge.
Ms Boyd has made the pledge and will be reading a fiction book (but is sadly too old to get Young Scot points). You can read anything you want, wherever you like. Sign up here.
More information is on your Library Teams.
