All Living Things

All living things is Room Seven’s topic. It is about animals like amphibians and mammals and also plants and flowers. My favourite part was the plants and flowers because it was so interesting and it was amazing because these plants have female and male parts on them. All Living Things ties in with Clyde in the Classroom which is when we get brown trout eggs from the River Clyde Foundation and raise them in the hatchery. When hatched we release them into the local burn till they become sea trout or brown trout.

Topic and Events

In primary 6/7 we have been doing exciting things in Kirk o’Shotts Primary. Our topic is All Living Things. It is its all about habitats and different types of animals. We have been learning about reptiles, mammals, birds and amphibians, it is a lot of fun.

There has been a lot of events in Kirk o’Shotts Primary. We’ve had a company called Rookie Rock Stars. They teach us songs and we design a CD cover for the CD which they will make.

Primary 6/7 were given brown trout eggs. We had to take great care of the eggs we had to keep the water temperture between 9 and 12 degrees. Once they were about 2 centimetres long until we release them in the local burn.

Releasing Trout!

Primary 6/7 were given 200 trout eggs and they had to hatch them and once they were hatched they were to release them into their local burn. A man named ‘Willie’ came in every week to talk about how the trout are doing and they also got to ask him some questions at the end. Primary 6/7 had great fun raising the trout and hope that most if them will surive but Willie said that on,y 20% will live. Miss King and Mrs Shanks went down to the local burn with the primary 6/7 boys and girls and released the fish. Some children named theirs. Willie told everyone that they had to wear suitable clothing because it might be raining or they have gotten wet. While the children were preparing Willie was also. He was separating the baby trout into small box containers and some had one, two, three or maybe even four in it! Some of the children are sad that the fish have gone but they had great fun doing the project and hope that they could do more things like this in the future.

Trout Realease

Room 7 got given a number of 200 trouts to care for. We received them on the 18th January. A man called Willie came in every Tuesday until our release which was on the  11th march. Friday was  a very exciting day we all had 1-4 trouts in each tub and we walked down  to our local burn which was just down the lane. It was a lovely river and it will be a great home for the trout.

We had a great time and thank you so much Willie for all that you have done we had a wonderful time.

St Pats Quiz

Last Friday primary 6/7 took part in St Patricks rotary quiz in Shotts. The team was Jamie, Emma, Abby and I. There were 8 rounds to the quiz and our best round was expressive arts. Even though we did good in that round sadly the same couldn’t be said about the maths round because we only got one of the questions right. At the interval we were 4th but we ended up coming second thanks to getting all of the questions right in the pot luck round. The final positions were St Pats 1st Kirk o’ Shotts 2nd and Dykehead 3rd. We are proud to come 2nd.

Practice Dancing

Today we have been practising our dancing for the Christmas party. We were dancing with Primary 4,6 and 7 because the P5 went swimming and some of the P6,7’s went to handball. Some of the P4’s didn’t know what to do because they only started. The dance’s that we did were Gay Gordon’s, Military two step and the dashing white sergeant.
